XI • Thoughts

AN UNKNOWN EMOTION CREPT INSIDE Callista's heart as she laid down on her bed, looking at pale moon glistening the dark roads, through her windows.

Much thoughts tossed inside her heart. Thoughts of him.

The first time she had experienced an one night stand was with her father's boss, sinfully good looking yet forbidden to desire. It was a fact that he was much older to even think of in the society's eyes.

However, she could not stop thinking how his body felt against hers. This wasn't just lust at least from her end and she knew it.

The smile on her face instantly vanished as she thought what circumstances she would have to face if her father got to know about her dirty adventure.

She felt tears running down her cheeks as her body shook while she grabbed the bedsheet tight against her body. She felt terrible, guilty yet she could not take Alastair out of her mind.

She did not expect this to happen. She had agreed to herself that she would forget him forever after the pleasure-filled night but his touch made her want him more. She wanted a taste of him again. So wrong yet such an insatiable desire.

The next morning, when the family met at breakfast, Callista felt guilty. Her heart felt heavy for hiding such an important fact of losing her virginity and to dad's boss, an older man.

She chewed the bread slowly as her hands trembled. She looked once at her mother, who was smiling as she hurriedly typed something to someone and at once, looked at her dad, who seemed rather lost in deep thoughts.

"C-can you pass the water, p-please?", she asked her mother who finally looked up.

"You sound shady. What's wrong? There's nothing to stutter about." the woman said.

Shit, Callista said to herself in her mind as she swallowed a lump out of nervousness.

"Nothing, mom. I just choked on the bread" she lied miserably.

"Whatever, just to inform you Elijah, I'll not be returning home tonight-" the mother said.

"The seventh night of this month." Callista heard her father correct his wife.

The woman glared at her husband and signed something with her eyes as she spoke again. "I can take my own decisions. I've an important work to handle."

She got up from the chair and went out, as the door shut with a loud thud.

Callista saw the veins on her father's hands out of pain, anger, jealousy.

"Dad, it's fine." she said, consoling him.

He nodded as he said quite irrelevantly "You never said that your best friend has financial problems. I met her at a cafe."

"Yes, she does and has to work at a cafe to pay her fees.", Callista said sighing.

"Bring her over tonight. I'll try suggesting a few career options to her according to her qualifications. Even my friend owns a firm. He could help her out. I can pay her to get her selected if required."

"No, dad. You need not pay for her. She's my best friend. You shouldn't be-" Callista started.

"Ssh, she needs it. I don't want her life to be ruined for her financial status. I really want to help." he asserted.

Callista nodded as he got up and left for office.

As soon as she heard the door shut, she called up her friend to inform her about her father's offer.

"Mr. Cassidy wants to help me?" she heard her friend stutter a few minutes after the conversation.

"Yes, dad wants to help you. Please don't feel awkward in front of dad, Chloe. You've known him for many years now."

"I'll be there." she heard Chloe say with much hesitation.
