Oct 30, 4pm- My day so far has been quite exciting. Breakfast was lovely and after I finished I headed out onto the main streets to visit the shops. I was greeted by a few fellow Goths and Punks and families dressing up for Halloween- I felt so much more at home. The atmosphere was welcoming. Well, somewhat welcoming. I still received minor scorns and mild comments were still occasionally handed around. I passed and visited so many wonderful shops- shops for witches, shops for metal-heads, shops for video-game fanatics, shops for everyone! Yet I believe the whole Gothic atmosphere I was expecting was slightly worn away by the cheap, seaside feel of the place- at times it felt as though I was in Blackpool.
As I am writing this I sit in a quaint little café; besides the harbour. I cup my hot chocolate in my hands and peer out across the foggy horizon. I imagine the arrival of the Demeter, the ship that brought Dracula to England, and all the chaos he would bring. This evening I shall visit the wonderful ruins of the Abbey and then experience my first night of the Goth festival.
