The sound of the blistering wind struck my ears forcefully as me and my best friend ran playfully through the woods. It was a regular day, and the trees whipped the sides of our excited faces as we made our way to our regular spot.

"Come on Bry!" I called behind me whilst continuing running.

"I'm coming Lan." He called back in between forceful breaths. "Not everyone has the speed of you!"

We reached the outskirts of the woods and stopped at the edge of the trees and sat on the ground looking out at the sight of blinding different colored lights that spun in circles on the beams of a gigantic Ferris wheel.

"Oh, how lucky I would be to get on one of those one day." I say while sighing.

"Lance. You know why we cannot go on those. Or in civilization at all." Brian responded breaking me out of my hopes.

"I know." I reply while placing my hand on the medium sized black-grey wings that sat peacefully on my back. "But how different life would be if we were just 'normal' kids who went to 'normal' school and lived a 'normal' life."

Brian then placed his small hand on my shoulder and squeeze it a little. "Well we aren't normal kids."
I sighed a little and stood to my feet. "Well nothing can happen to us if we stay out of sight." I then ran from our spot and towards the fair.

"Lance, wait no! We're going to get caught." He called from behind me, but I did not stop, I was dead set on my one goal.

We both reached the separating fence to the fair and crouched behind it. "Look." I say pointing to a clothing stand. "If we can reach one of those coats, we might be able to tuck our wings and look like normal kids."

Brian looked over at the crowd-filled environment. "We'll never make it over there. We just stick out too much."

I ignored his warning and proceeded to hop the fence and hesitantly so did he. We both reached the jackets and grabbed one and proceeded to put one on.

"Hey! You two have to pay for those!" A voice called from behind us causing my body to jump out of its skin. "Oh my!" She screamed.

Our little wings poked out of backs and straight at her. "Are those wings?"

Brian grabbed my arm and began to pull me away. "Lan come on; we have to go!"

Suddenly, a group of men dressed in blue and black and badges swarmed out of nowhere and chased after us. We both ran with all our might trying to gain enough momentum to take off as we were not great fliers yet.

As I began to jump off the ground and fly, I suddenly heard a call for me. I instantly recognized it as Brian. "Lan, help!" The men had caught up to him and had already tied him and his wings down. "Lance! Please help me!" He screamed again, this time in between tears.

I dropped back onto my feet and then began to flap my wings rapidly at the guards causing a gust that was meant to knock them over, but unsuccessfully my wings were not strong enough to make them release him.

"I'm sorry Bry." I say back in between tears while continuing to run again, and before I knew it, Brian and the fair was completely out of sight.
