I woke up to banging on my door
"Coming," I say as I open it.
"Fun time bud!" Christy says as she tugs me across the ship
"What's this fun time?" I ask
"It's basically like game day," she says
"Gameday?" I ask still confused
"You know...like play board games," she says as we reach the cafeteria. What she was said was true...we played board games for the day.
In the evening, we all stopped playing
"Ok, so, I'm sure you all are aware of our two new crewmates...and you all know the tradition," Newton says. I can hear from his voice that he is probably smiling.
"A tradition?" Kelly asks
"Yes, someone randomly chosen a week ago, gifts the newbie's something," he says as Kelly nods
"So...Kelly's first," he says as Joseph gets up.
"I heard you write down a bunch of stuff...so I got you a book," he says embarrassed as she happily accepts it
"Thanks, my current book won't last me the trip," she says as Olivia gets up
"And now for (Y/N)," Newton says as Olivia walks toward me.
She reached for my head as I went to back away
"Stay," she demands seriously as I stop as let her fiddle with something on my helmet
"There," she says happily as she steps back
"Why'd you do that?" I ask her
"Your a white canvas waiting to be painted," she says as I look at her in confusion
Newton brings me something reflective as I look in the mirror.
I had a leaf fixed on the top of my helmet.
"Hmm," I say as I look at it.
"It's not real...id never be able to torture a plant like that," Olivia says as I nod
"I wouldn't want to carry around a dying plant anyways," I mutter as I thank her
"I suppose it gives me some colour," I say as she laughs and nods.
Do we have any spare paint hanging around," Jaren says laughing
"I'm not getting covered in pai--," I begin to say before the lights cut out and the ship violently shakes
Red lights fill the room as the Television screens blur out "Haul has been breached,"
"Oh shit," Newton yells in a heavy slur of an accent I've never heard before
"Fan out everybody! Find the breach and patch it!" He yells over the blurring alarms.
We all searched over the ship as we looked for it. After a while of looking, Newton came over the intercoms and said that it has been patched and the alarms stopped.
We all regrouped at the cafeteria
"Is everyone here?" Newton asks
"I don't see Jaren," Olivia says as I notice it too...the old man isn't here
"Where'd he go this time?" Newton curses.
"Engine room maybe?" I ask as Newton nods
"Olivia go with him, we'll stay here and wait for you two before looking somewhere else," Newton commands
"Copy that," she says as she leads me to the engine room.
The door was shut and her hands were fumbling to punch in the code.
"Fuck!" She yells stressed. I grab her hand and pull it aside. I do it instead as she backs away
"I'm sorry," she mutters
"All good," I respond as the door opens
Looking into the engine...I stare at it horrified... The computers are all destroyed...and a red suit lies face down on the ground.
"Jaren!" I call out as I roll him around...he was limp. As I continued. I noticed a small puddle of blood. We didn't notice it before because he is red...but I can clearly see through his suit and his stomach.
Jaren is dead
"Oh god," Olivia says as she gasps
"What happened?" I say. I don't know if I was asking him the question and was waiting for a response.
I noticed a sticky substance on the ground near the blood. I left it alone as I looked at the engine computers. They were all fried. And as I looked at the engines. One wasn't working at all
"Ok, we need to tell the others," I say as she nods. We head back to the others who were waiting.
"Did you find him?" Newton asks as I motion them to follow. I lead them to the engine and show them Jaren's bodies.
Newton looked shocked when he first saw it.
As for Tom and Kelly. They were paralyzed as they looked at the body
"Any clue as to what happened?" Joseph asks as he crouches near Jaren
"It looks like he was impaled by something," I say as I look around
"I don't know what though...I would think that we would see if it was around here," I say as Newton examines the sticky fluid.
"Test this stuff..see what it is," Newton demands as Olivia grabs some and goes on her way to the lab
"If I didn't know better...id say he was impaled....by someone," Newton says as he looks at all of us.
He stops for a second
"But I see no reason why they would kill the old man," Newton says
"So what your saying is there is a killer among us?" Joseph asks as Newton nods
"Yes," he says looking at me
"What?" I ask confused
"Your the only one here who has no connection at all to Jaren," Newton says as I blink in disbelief
"You think I did it?" I ask him as he nods
"That's crazy!" I say as I look at the others. They all are looking at me suspiciously
"I had no problems, with the old man," I defend myself as Newton looks around the room
"It's been thrashed...I doubt whoever did this wanted to kill him...but the real target is the engines!" Newton pieces it together as he inspects the engines.
"Engine 1 is malfunctioning and engine 2 is down," Newton reports. As he draws his attention back to me
"I didn't do it," I remind him as he looks unsure
Olivia walks back in.
"This is surpassing news," she says out of breath
"But the fluid matches perfectly with the estimated silva of one of the Alien life forms that we are due to investigate," she says as Newton nods
"See," I say making my point
"Strip the ship down look for this life form..."
