I put my bags down next to the front door. The air smelled fresh, like new beginnings. I was excited to move into my new home. I had only waited a few days until the official documents were signed, it was a very quick and smooth process.
The sellers were moving out of the country but they hadn't specified where. I was just happy that there were no problems between us, they seemed like really nice people.
I entered the home, filled with joy and hope for my new life. I could already imagine my boyfriend moving in with me in a couple of months. I could practically see my future family running around the living room. Two beautiful, smart kids having fun and playing together, while me and my husband cooked dinner.
I would always imagine the craziest scenarios! People told me not to get ahead of myself because if I imagined my future in so much detail it might be harder to adapt to unprecedented events and easier to get dissapointed. I didn't listen...
I spent the entire day unpacking and decorating. I didn't even have the furniture or even my bed properly placed, but I already had flowers and paintings all over the house.
My neighbors arrived soon after I finished moping the floor and cleaning the bathrooms. I wanted everything to be ready in case of surprise guests, which was the right move. They knocked on the door and I answered quickly. One of them had a batch of freshly baked cookies in their hands, I could smell it from inside my home.
They all came in and we had a good time. They didn't stay for long, but I certainly appreciated the cookies and the warm welcome.
It was getting dark, and I was to tired to go visit my next door neighbor, who hadn't come in with the rest of them. The other neighbors said he might have come late from work, or that he might be sick and stayed home. No one was particularly fond of him, so they didn't check up on him.
I just went to sleep, and decided to go the next day.
