"Welcome, family, friends, and loved ones

"Welcome, family, friends, and loved ones. We gather here today to celebrate the wedding of Rocco and Nettie. You have come here to share in this formal commitment they make to one another, to offer your love and support to this union, and to allow Rocco and Nettie to start their married life together surrounded by the people dearest and most important to them. So welcome to one and all, who have traveled from near and far. Rocco and Nettie thank you for your presence here today and now ask for your blessing, encouragement, and lifelong support, for their decision to be married." The pastor said.

The pastor started to explain the definition of marriage.

"Marriage is perhaps the greatest and most challenging adventure of human relationships. No ceremony can create your marriage; only you can do that—through love and patience; dedication and perseverance; talking and listening, helping and supporting and believing in each other; tenderness and laughter; learning to forgive, learning to appreciate your differences, and by learning to make the important things matter, and to let go of the rest. What this ceremony can do is to witness and affirm the choice you make to stand together as lifemates and partners." He explained.

Then it was time for the declaration of intent.

"Will you, Rocco, take this woman to be your wedded wife?" He asked.

"I will," Rocco answered.

"Will you, Nettie, take this man to be your wedded husband?" He asked.

"I will," Nettie answered.

Then it was time for the readings. Nettie and Rocco had chosen their maid of honor, Cardi, and best man, Maddox to give the readings for their traditional wedding.

"In the spirit of the importance of strong friendships to a marriage, Rocco and Nettie have asked two friends to read selections about love that especially resonate with them.1st READING, followed by 2nd READING." The pastor said.

Cardi cleared her throat and held the mic to her lips and looked at the guests. She had her poem mesmerized so she didn't need to look at her paper.

Cardi's poem was Habitation By Margaret Atwood.

"Marriage is not a house or even a tent, it is before that, and colder: the edge of the forest, the edge
of the desert, the unpainted stairs at the back where we squat outside, eating popcorn, the edge of the receding glacier where painfully and with wonder at having survived even this far we are learning to make fire." She said then handed the mic to Maddox.

Maddox held the mic to his lips and smiled. Maddox's reading was The Promise by Heather Berry.

"Within this blessed union of souls, where two hearts intertwine to become one, there lies a promise. Perfectly born, divinely created, and intimately shared, it is a place where the hope and majesty of beginnings reside. Where all things are made possible by the astounding love shared by two spirits. As you hold each other's hands in this promise, and eagerly look into the future in each other's eyes, may your unconditional love and devotion take you to places where you've both only dreamed. Where you'll dwell for a lifetime of happiness, sheltered in the warmth of each other's arms." Maddox said.

It was now the time for the support of the community.

"Two people in love do not live in isolation. Their love is a source of strength with which they may nourish not only each other but also the world around them. And in turn, we, their community of friends and family, have a responsibility to this couple. By our steadfast care, respect, and love, we can support their marriage and the new family they are creating today." The pastor said.

"Will everyone please rise? Will you who are present here today, surround Rocco and Nettie in love, offering them the joys of your friendship, and supporting them in their marriage?" He asked.

"We will!" The bridal party and the guests exclaimed.

"Y'all better," Rocco said.

Nettie chuckled.

"You may be seated." He said.

Everyone sat down and now the pastor moved on to the wedding vows.

"We've come to the point of your ceremony where you're going to say your vows to one another. But before you do that, I ask you to remember that love—which is rooted in faith, trust, and acceptance— will be the foundation of an abiding and deepening relationship. No other ties are more tender, no other vows more sacred than those you now assume. If you can keep the vows you take here today, not because of any religious or civic law, but out of a desire to love and be loved by another person fully, without limitation, then your life will have joy and the home you establish will be a place in which you both will find the direction of your growth, your freedom, and your responsibility. Please now read the vows you have written for each other." He said.

"I call you 'My Nettie' because you are my everything. You are my light, and you've shown me more love than I've ever known. You have filled my life with joy and have given me a sense of peace that I have never known. I promise to put you first and love you even when you get real sassy." Rocco said.

"You are my best friend, my biggest supporter. Although today marks the start of the rest of our lives, I know it will not be enough time with you. And because words cannot do it, I promise to show you, for the rest of my life, how much I love you. I promise to be loyal and faithful and to put you before all else." Nettie said.

"May I have the rings, please?" He asked.

Maddox and Cardi each handed him a ring.

"Please repeat after me: I give you this ring, as a daily reminder of my love for you." He said.

Rocco and Nettie repeated the words as they placed their rings on each other's fingers.

"By the power of your love and commitment and the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss each other!" He announced.
