Chapter 45

Emmett kisses Gemma's cheek after Bella and Edward's first kiss as husband and wife. Carlisle and Esme smile in joy and Carlisle places a gentle, and loving kiss on Esme's cheek.

"Hey, Mikey," Gemma greets during the reception when she and Kate walk over.

"Hey, Gem," Mike greets. "Hi, I'm Gemma's brother, Mike."

"I'm Kate, one of Emmett's cousins," Kate claims. 

Irina is standing alone across the yard. Irina keeps staring at Billy and Seth. She huffs and she approaches Carmen and Tanya, and the newlyweds.

"I can't do this," Irina claims.

"You promised," Tanya hisses.

"They invited one," Irina sneers.

"Irina, he's a friend of ours," Edward claims.

"They killed Laurent," Irina snaps.

"He almost turned Gemma, and would have killed Bella right after," Edward states.

Irina almost deflated at that, but she doesn't allow herself to believe that. "I don't believe that. He wanted to be like us. To live in peace with humans. With me."

"I'm sorry."

Irina storms away, unable to hear anymore of Edward's apologies.

"Irina!" Carmen exclaims scoldingly.

"Well," Eleazar the mumbles. "Let's not mobilize thr bride. Congratulations."

"Thank you," Bella Cullen replies.

"I'm sorry," Tanya says before she joins Gemma and Kate.

Gemma and Emmett are sitting at a table with the Denali. She is sat in between Tanya and Carmen. Emmett is on the stage right now, preparing to give a toast.

"Excuse me. Is this on?" He taps the mic, getting a loud feedback. "Hello?" He grimaces at his loud voice. "Um, I'd like to propose a toast. To my new sister. Bella, I hope you've gotten enough sleep these last eighteen years. 'Cause you won't be getting any more for a while."

Gemma and Kate share an asked look at Emmett's awkward laugh as he hurries off the stage and rejoins them.

"That was embarrassing," Emmett mutters.

"Try being me," Gemma jokes, earning a playful pout from her fiancée.

"Well, Bella was just like everyone else, totally mesmerized by Edward," Jessica says when she's up. "Or 'The Hair', as I call him. And then, suddenly, Edward was all about Bella. Even though she's not the captain of the volleyball team."

"That was me!" Gemma counters, winking at the groom, who laughs.

"I'm just kidding," Jessics claims after the correction. "I'm just kidding. Or the president of the student council."

Charlie: "Edward will be a good husband. I know this because I'm a cop, I know things. Like how to hunt people down to the ends of the earth. And I know how to use a gun."

Alice: "now that you're my sister, you'll have to get over your aversion to fashion. Skirts, heels, handbags."

Renee: 🎶 "Go to sleep, my love. Go to sleep. When you wake, you'll see me."

Gemma grins at Renee's lullaby and she grabs Emmett's hand when he and Tanya trade places.

Esme: "I'd like to thank Renee and Charlie for bringing such a wonder person into the world and into our lives. We will cherish and protect her forever."

Edward: "It's an extraordinary thing to meet someone who you can bare your soul to. And who will accept you for what you are. I've been waiting, what seems like a very long time, to get beyond what I am. And with Bella, I feel like I can finally begin. So I'd like to propose a toast to my beautiful bride. No measure of time with you will be enough. But let's start with forever."

"Oh, god," Gemma blubbers. "If I were human, I'd be sobbing in the ugly way."

Tanya laughs emotionally. "Oh, me too!"

Emmett watches as the women grow emotional and he glances at Eleazar. "Women."

Eleazar grins. "Women."

Emmett takes Gemma's hands once Edward and Bella leave for their honeymoon.

"We're next," Emmett mutters.

"I know," Gemma replies. "Can you put up with me?"

Emmett smirks. "As much as you can put up with me."

"Always?"

Emmett kisses Gemma's knuckles. "And forever."
