This chapter could be considered disturbing, so read at your own risk.

It was hard for me to write and I almost cried while writing it... so yeah.

"This could be my last goodbye. You cross your heart. I hope to die." -Boys Like Girls

Chapter Four

The rest of that weekend was hell. I had put so much effort into getting Claire to believe me and had gotten absolutely nowhere.

I had gone to her house Saturday with white tulips. I needed her to realize how much I loved her and how honest I was being.

Chloe had answered the door to my surprise visit, and called Claire down, but the girl refused to see me. That made my eyes fill with tears and I wasn't about to cry on her doorstep. So I gave the tulips to Chloe to give to Claire. The part which really broke my heart was finding those tulips laying on my doorstep a few hours later, all mashed up and destroyed.

I couldn't help but wonder if this was it. Was Claire going to break up with me?

I hadn't spoken to my little brother; I couldn't even look at him. He was the fucking reason my relationship was falling apart.

So here it was, Sunday afternoon, and still I was heartbroken. I hadn't bothered with trying to contact Claire anymore. I thought that maybe she needed a little space. Yes, maybe after a short break from the terrible event, she would realize how dramatic and ridiculous she was being.

Being at work was a nice distraction. I worked at a small coffee shop with Miles. My mother made me pay for the gas in my car, so I was forced to have a job. I worked part time and got paid an amazingly good amount of money.

I had told Miles what had happened and he had given me all his sympathy. He actually believed me that it wasn't a hickey. The mark on my neck had faded into a barley noticeable pink circle.

"I would like a White Vanilla Mocha," said the stranger.

I nodded as I punched in the order. I enjoyed my workplace, especially this weekend. As much as it got my mind off Claire, I couldn't help but wonder about how she was feeling. Was she at home crying? Or was she silently cursing me out in her mind?

A loud vibration from my jean's pocket grasped my attention. I knew I was at work, and I shouldn't be taking calls, so I ignored it. I then felt it vibrate again, indicating that I now had a text message.

After I had dealt with the customer, I peeked at my phone. My heart froze when I read that I had missed a call from Claire, and that I had a new text message from her.

I immediately checked the message, silently reading it.

'Alex, please answer my call. We need to talk.'

What did she want to talk about? Was she going to break up with me now?

I ran over to Miles and tapped him on the shoulder. "Claire wants me to call her. Will you cover for me?" I asked, hoping he would understand since I had explained my predicament to him.

"Yeah, sure," he said with a small smile.

"Thank you so much!" I exclaimed before running into the back.

I instantly called Claire and held the phone up to my ear. My nerves were kicking my ass, but I knew I needed to talk to her. I was honestly just happy she made the effort to get a hold of me.
