"It doesn't matter what we play," Chamberlin says, he says this to Emmett. "Your girl's athletic, man. You better snatch her up before someone else does."

"I don't want to drag her into our world," Emmett claims.

"I've seen it, Emmett," Alice claims. "She'll be with us, and happy."

Emmett looks over at where Gemma's truck is parked and sees her brother scowling at it. "She is good with cars too, apparently."

"Oh, I know," Rosalie replies. "I've been in her auto shop class the past two years."

Emmett sighs. "Okay. I need to talk to her because everyone else knows her better than I do, and she's my blood singer."

"When do you even see her during the day?" Edward asks.

"When she's going to gym and I'm leaving," Emmett replies, "and at lunch. That's it."

"Talk to her in the parking lot, you see her then, too," Edward says. "Wait for her after Spanish. You'll get here faster than her."

Emmett nods his head. "Well, I have class. See you guys."

Gemma halts in her step at the cement steps at the edge of the parking lot, Rosalie walks on by her. Emmett is leaning against her truck, chatting it up with Mike about sports, even if she doesn't know that. The smile on Mike's face is something that Gemma hadn't seen since before Henry died.

Gemma glances at the other Cullens, they're both paying neither her nor their brother any mind. The blonde sighs.

'He better not have scratched my paint,' Gemma grumbles mentally, making Edward smirk from the Cullens' cars and he tells them what Gemma said. "Emmett?"

"Are you going to the store today?" Mike asks his sister.

"Yeah," Gem replies.

"Tell mom I'm going to the diner with Tyler," Mike pleads.

As soon as Gemma nods, Mike gets into Tyler's van, because that's his ride, and they're gone.

"I hope Mike didn't drive you too crazy," Gemma says.

"Nah," Emmett replies.

When Emmett stands, Gemma checks her truck, making Rosalie cackle a little bit. Emmett watches her with a raised eyebrow and he grins at her satisfied smile.

"Were you waiting for me?" Gemma asks as Jessica leaves the school with her gossip circle, they all freeze when they spot Gemma and Emmett.

"Maybe," Emmett replies. "I want to get to know you."

Gemma's blue eyes widen in surprise, making Emmett's grin grow even more. He enjoys the affect he seems to have on her. Her heart rate had picked up as she got closer, and she's tense. Her blood smells absolutely amazing, tempting, but after two years, Emmett has gotten used to Gemma's strong scent.

"Why me?" Gemma asks.

"What do you mean?" Emmett asks, furrowing his eyebrows.

"I'm nothing special," Gemma says. "Just a small town girl."

"I'm a small town guy, Gemma," Emmett says, and Gemma raises an eyebrow. "Okay, maybe I'm new to the whole small town thing, but I'm serious about wanting to get to know you. "

"I never said you weren't," Gemma muses. "But I'm nothing special. I'm just Gemma Newton. Small town girl who helps her mom in a sporting / hiking gear store during the week with no life on the weekends, once so ever."

"And I want to get to know every part of you, Gemma Newton," Emmett claims, "because I like you."

Gemma's eyes widen. "You're kidding?" She searches his bright golden eyes and sees no sense of dishonesty. "You're serious?"

"Yes, I'm serious, Gemma," Emmett replies.

"Okay..." Gemma replies slowly. "I have to get to my mom's store, but how about we start 'getting to know each other' this weekend?"

Emmett grabs Gemma by her wrist, his body temperature making her shiver suddenly, and he grabs a sharpie from his jeans pocket. He uses his teeth to remove the cap. He writes his name and number into the palm of Gemma's hand and he releases her.

"Text me," Emmett insists and he walks away.

Gemma's eyes flicker toward her hand and her lips twist in confusion. Jasper studies the girl and her confused emotion and suddenly she feels flustered. The empath smirks slightly before he joins Alice in the car without saying a word to a confused Emmett.

Gemma smiles a little bit, feeling happy now, and she climbs into her truck and drives to Newton's Olympic Outfitters.
