It all started with a dance

The next day over breakfast the headmistress announced the ball, there were celebratory cheers amongst the student body

Except for Hermione and Draco who were still pouting about the fact that they would have to be near one another for long periods of time

Ron looked to Hermione, he had a plan to get her back and it was sure to succeed

"Mione, do you want to go to the ball with me?" He asked, last time he made the mistake of not asking her first and lost her to Viktor Krum

Hermione internally groaned, does he not get the point that she doesn't want to be with him after everything he did

"Can't, already have a date" she said, full of sarcasm that apparently the red hair boy didn't pick up on and started turning as red as his hair

"McGonagall just announced it, how do you have a date?" Ron asked her harshly

"I'm supposed to go with the head boy, house unity and all that," Hermione told him, not in a mood to fight

"Malfoy, you're going with bloody Malfoy?" Ron asked louder this time, drawing the attention of Harry and Ginny

"You're going with Maloy? why, are you sick?" Ginny asked she put a hand on Hermione's forehead, the brunette slapped the hand away

"No, I'm not sick" Hermione answered

"Then why are you willingly spending time with Malfoy?" Ginny asked her like she was a child

"Do you think I willingly want to spend time with the ferret? No, this is the headmistress' doing" Hermione answered

"Maybe if we talk to her, she'll let you go with someone else" Harry suggested

Hermione shook her head, she was already on a tight robe with the headmistress

"Don't worry about it, I'll figure something out" she told them

Ron was still coming up with a new plan, he wasn't going to lose Hermione to a deatheater

Breakfast ended and the Gryffindors began their day, the ball was lifting everyone's hope once again, well, almost everyone, the Slytherin prince and the Gryffindor princess were dreading it

The day ended and Hermione was standing in the great hall with Draco, all the tables have been moved to the sides, giving them enough room to dance

They were ignoring one another, pretending that the other one wasn't there

The headmistress walked in and saw her two students ignoring one another

She clapped her hands and motioned them to move to the center, the shuffled towards her

"I assume you've looked over the material?" She asked them

They nodded but still didn't look at one another, the headmistress looked at them

"Well come on then, get into position" she ordered the two

They unenthusiastically got into position, Draco put his left hand on her waist and took her left hand in his right one, she put her hand on his right shoulder and lifted her elbow slightly

The headmistress put the music and began counting down, when they got the cue they took the wrong steps, crashing into one another

"You're supposed to go backward Malfoy," Hermione told him

"No you're supposed to go backward," Draco said

"No the steps are lead goes back three steps, then it's three steps forward, a raised twirl, shadow three steps forwards, one step back, spin back, two steps to the left, two to the right" Hermione said
