5. Decompression

"We've been avoiding this room," explained the landlord, unlocking Room 121.

Jared blinked. "And why is that, exactly?"

The landlord gazed at him, wrinkled skin shimmering with sweat. His hand was trembling. "You'll see."

As soon as he turned the knob, everything became clear. It happened so fast that Jared didn't have time to scream. Or to gasp.

"Wha—"

The landlord stepped out of the way. Jared flew past him, being sucked into the empty room. Sucked out of the broken window. Outside.

Next came the fall. Sixteen feet down.

Thump.

"It's been like this since those boys threw that brick," the landlord grumbled, then closed the door. He turned the key.
