Chapter 8: Birthday Party (The Event)

Bigla ako napatingin sa kaniya. And then our eyesight finally meet. Dahil sa dilim, at tanging ang malaking buwan lang ang nagbibigay liwanag sa paligid, I can not clearly see her face.

“I’m sorry!”

She then said after a moment of silence. Hindi kasi ako makasagot dahil nagiging biglaan ang mga nangyayari.

“Don’t be sorry Gwen. It was me, it was me who cheated back then so I must be the one to be sorry”

“I’m sorry If I didn’t give you the chance to explain”

I smiled at her and guided her na sumandal sa dibdib ko. Hinimas himas ko pa ang kaniyang ulo habang walang tigil sa pagsabi sa kaniya na hindi dapat siya mag-sorry sa’kin.

“At least now, we both know that we have now forgiven each other”

Bigla siyang tumingala sa’kin sabay sabi ng thank you. I just smiled in return.

Hanggang sa bigla niyang inilapit sa’kin ang kaniyang mukha at hinalikan ako. I was shocked at first, pero nang maramdaman ko na hindi pa siya kumakalas sa pagkakahalik sa’kin naramdaman ko nalang ang sarili ko na hinahalikan na rin siya.

I missed these kisses. I missed Gwen and I missed her as my girl. I keep on kissing her hanggang sa bigla nalang nag-init ang katawan ko. My hand begun to move across her body and explore it around and every part of her.

“Do you want?” I whispered to her ear.

“Just make sure not to spoil me with that!”

I wonder why I don’t see my bestfriend here. She supposed to be here since Russel, is celebrating his birthday. This is unusual. Simula nang makilala namin si Russel palagi kaming magkakasama sa tuwing nagsi-celebrate ng kaawaran ang bawat isa. Balak ko pa naman sana siyang surpresahin na nandito na ako.

Hindi ko maiwasang mapaisip kung bakit wala rito si Czarina habang nakaupo ako sa seashore at pinagmamasdang maigi ang pagsikat ng araw at paghampas ng bawat alon sa dalampasigan.

And one more thing that bothers me today is that, why Dixon is here if Czarina was not? Isa pa, he stays overnight with some other girl? May tinatago ba siya sa bestfriend ko? Is he cheating?

“Ang aga mo atang nagising?”

A familiar voice exists. I turn my head to see who is coming and Gwen, my friend in Manila appears over my eyesight. Siya ‘yung katabi ni Dixon na matulog sa iisang tent kagabi. She sat down beside me and she looks to the direction where I am looking at.

“Wala. Naho-homesick siguro ako”

I don’t know If I have used the right term just to make an alibi about the real reason of being awake. Pinagtsi-tsismisan ko palang sila kanina sa utak ko, and that’s indeed the reason.

“How ‘bout you?”

I asked without directly looking at her. Nakapako pa rin ang tingin ko sa pagitan ng langit at ng dagat while the reddish clouds earlier is changing in to yellowish clouds now.

She didn’t answer me.

“By the way, why is it like, Czarina isn’t here? Hindi ba siya inimbitahan ni Russel?I know you’ve met her already so you knew her for sure”

I can not help myself to be just silent after knowing that Czarina did not attend to the party. Besides, she supposed to be here.
