Gaege Pov
I wake up in the morning and rub my eyes. Wow I did not sleep well last night. I have a pounding headache and my arms are sore. I have no idea how this happened. Did I get drunk? How did I get home? I get up slowly and walk to the bathroom and take some aspirin. As I open the medicine cabinet, I see a flash of black. I look at my hand and I see that the ring finger on my right hand is painted black. Did I do that last night? Wait, I go and find some nail polish remover and a cotton ball. I rub on the nail for a few minutes but nothing happens. Great, my soulmate turned 15 today. I get dressed, but don't move too fast because my headache is still there. I make my way outside to meet my friends outside. I shove my hands in my hoodie pocket.
"Happy Birthday Eddie," Josh says.
"Thanks Josh," Eddie replies.
"What color did you get?" Grant asks.
"Black," Eddie replies. I stop walking and choke, but I turn it into a cough.
"You ok Gaege?" Josh asks.
"Yeah I'm fine," I say. I continue to walk with them, but I'm not really listening to their conversation. We arrive at school, and I immediately separate myself from them. I have Math for my first class, and then rest of them have different classes. I'll see them at lunch and then have classes with them for the rest of the day. How am I going to hide my fingernail? I could wear gloves. I mean, it's kind of in style right now. Or I could paint the rest of my finger nails black. That only works for a short period of time though, stupid universe. Stupid soulmates.
