Chloe and I arrived at the party when it was already in full swing. It was a lacrosse party, since our school made it to the state championships, and they wanted to celebrate.
We headed straight to the alcohol, of course. We did a few shots quickly, and then each grabbed a cup of rum and coke before heading to the living room to socialize.
"Nick!" Chloe grinned, giving the captain of the team a big hug, "Thanks for inviting us!"
"I'm glad you made it!" He smiled back, "Good to see you, Serena"
"You too, Nick" I said politely.
Nick and Chloe started shamelessly flirting, and I got bored of it real quick, so I headed back towards the kitchen where the alcohol was. I drank a little more, and stopped only when I was aware of my own clumsy, drunk stumbling.
I don't usually drink so much. I just really thought it was going to make me feel better, and it didn't. I just felt drunk and sad. That good mood I usually get from drinking wasn't hitting me at all.
I went back to the main room, and saw Chloe and Nick making out. I sighed impatiently, scanning the room for someone else to talk to, until I heard a voice right behind me.
"Hey Serena" I spun around and saw Logan, a cute guy from my English class, standing right there. We've always been friendly because we've shared a couple classes every year since I transferred here, but I've never really spoken to him out of school before.
"Logan! Hey!" I answered enthusiastically, just happy to have someone to socialize with again.
"You look amazing tonight" He said, putting his arm around me. I could smell the alcohol on him, but I figured I wasn't any better.
"Thanks" I said, with a small smile. I was starting to feel a little bit less like there was a fifty pound weight sitting on my chest.
He leaned in closer to me, and I studied his face until he was millimeters away. I was lost in thought about guys and life, so it didn't even occur to me that he was trying to kiss me until he closed his eyes. I backed away as quickly as I could, and blurted out the first thing that popped into my head.
"I-I'm sorry" I said, awkwardly, "I just- there's someone else"
"Wait, I thought you and Brayden broke up?" He asked, confused, "Aren't you single?"
"I am single" I admitted, hating myself for being stupid enough to say that there's someone else, "I just- I can't do this right now"
"You're single, Serena, and it's just a hook up" Logan said, very matter of factly, "It's not a marriage proposal"
I knew that this comment could be taken as rude, but the way he said it seemed very harmless to me, so I decided not to read into it. He didn't know what type of day I've had, and taking it out on him wouldn't do me any good.
"Yeah, I know" I forced out a short laugh because I knew he wasn't being rude, he was being honest but I wasn't in the mood for it, "Listen I'm gonna get another drink, but I'll see you in school"
I gave him one last half smile, and walked away. It took me three tries to unlock my phone, but when I finally did, I called the only person I really wanted to talk to right now.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Graayson" I drawled when he answered, "Hey!"
"Are you drunk, Princess?" He asked, and I could hear the smirk in his voice.
"No" I lied, "I just drank a tiny little bit. I don't even feel it"
"Sure Princess" He half heartedly agreed.
