Raymond

I sat at the counter eating cereal watching my mom mix together some eggs to make my dad an omelet.

"So, how's school?" she asked shocking the hell out of me. She barely ask about school. She just kinda skip pass the important stuff about my life and go straight to irrelevant stuff.. 'You think this fabric is nice? How about this couch style?' Bull shit if you ask me, but that's neither here nor there.

"It's good.. I'm passing my classes"

"Mmmm"

"Speaking of school.. I got something to tell you and dad"

"Dad what?" my dad said walking into the kitchen.

"I have something to tell you guys"

"You know what school you going to?" he asked. Wow.. Haven't given much thought about what imma do past high school.

"No.. It kinda involves my future though"

"What Raymond?"

"I got my girlfriend pregnant. Not intentionally, but I am completely taking responsibility" I said looking down. I took a deep breath before looking back up at them. My mom continued to cook, but did not say anything. My dad had a look on his face that I could not decipher.

"Son.." my dad started but my mom interrupted.

"We weren't always around, but you know better Raymond. You know to be safe and not get girls pregnant. How are you going to take care of a baby? Who house is the baby going to stay at? Raymond you can't be serious"

"Ma. Im dead serious. It happened. I swear to y'all that I am extra careful, I just don't know"

"Are you sure that you are the father? Are you sure that she is pregnant? How far along is she?" my dad asked.

"She told me she is pregnant and we have to go to her doctor's appointment, but she been egging me on to tell you guys and I wanted to tell y'all sooner rather than later"

"Well, I think you should be cautious during these nine months and get a DNA test when she have the baby. Don't get too attached" he said. I nodded kinda understand where he was coming from. I'm already having doubts about this whole situation so it would be best for me not to get too attached.

"I understand"

"Thank you for telling us tho" my mom said. I nodded as they went into their own conversation. I slid my bowl in the sink and went upstairs to my room. I facetimed Heaven and she answered on the second ring.

"You're late" she said.

"Goodmorning bestfriend. How are you?"

"We have a good schedule Ray" I'm suppose to call her at 10:30 on Saturdays, but it was sitting at 12:18 and I was just calling.

"Pookie. Imma come see you today"

"No.. That's not how all this works"

"I'll be there in bout 10 minutes" I said hanging up. I know she gone be mad, but she'll be aight. I haven't seen her in a couple weeks and I miss her.

I slid my hoodie over my head while sliding on my slides. I walked downstairs, back to the kitchen, to tell my parents I was leaving.

"I'm going to Heaven's house. I'll be back if that's okay"

"Yeah, it's fine. Tell her we said hello" I nodded walking out to my car. I honestly could walk around the corner to her house, but I'm lazy as shit. Who would want to walk when I can just drive around there. I started the car and proceeded to her house.
