Chapter 49

“Isn’t that a bad thing?” I asked him afterwards, “Teka lang, nalilito ako. Marami akong tanong…” tumalikod ako sa kanya sa sobrang gulo ng isip ko.

I heard him breathe deeply at the back, “Alam ko kung anong iniisip mo. That I’m a product of a sin—and that’s not the case. I was created in heaven and I do not have parents like the mortals.”

I think I need time to get used to seeing him like this. He is in human form but with certain angel characteristics retained.

And he’s just as beautiful as I remember him to be.

I couldn’t help myself at that time and I just blurted it out without hesitation, “I missed you.”

Never, ever, fall in love with a mortal.”

            “It’s forbidden, isn’t it?”

He clasped his fingers and he leaned forward while sitting on the bench. He was looking at the pool na para bang nag-iisip pagkatapos kong tanungin siya, “You know, I misunderstood it before. All along, akala ko bawal lang just because we’re told not to.” How can something as beautiful as love—and falling in love be forbidden?” I didn’t dare talk at hinayaan ko na lang siyang ipagpatuloy yung sinasabi niya, “When I was stuck in nothingness, I came to a realization that we, the angels, are not programmed to fall in love with mortals because one beautiful thing comes with multiple sinful things. It invites greed, lust, jealousy, hatred…. I can go on forever.” Tumingin siya sa sa akin ng mabilis, “The angels are supposed to guide, not to walk side by side with the mortals in going the wrong direction. That is, if you go out of control.”

When he explained it to me, it made sense at the same time. It was as if the answer was there all along, but I was too blind to see it. I felt obligated to say it, like I have to make that confession to him. “I uh… now that you say that… I think something happened between me and Jax.”

Tumingin siya sa akin nun, “Something happened?”

“I think we… uh… had sex. Not even made love and I’m very sorry about it.” I admitted to him, “It just happened.”

He looked at me from head to toe and then he just smiled and shook his head, “You’re still pure.” He told me.

Nanlaki siguro yung mata ko nung sinabi niya yun. I grabbed him by his arm at hinarap ko siya sa akin, “Ano? Anong sinabi mo uli?” I shook him because I was feeling very happy about what I heard, “You’re able to tell?”

“I am your angel after all.”

“Pero… teka lang…” nalito na naman uli ako, “Sabi ni Jax may bago na daw akong anghel?”

Sumagot naman siya kaagad sa akin, “He didn’t lie. You did have a new angel when I was gone. All mortals have to have at least one. But that was temporary since I came back.”

Everything just came back na para bang gusto kong malaman lahat-lahat. He’s here and he’s talking to me when all along akala ko wala na siya. Nanahimik kami parehas at ako ang unang-unang bumasag ng katahimikan, “How are you back?”
