Chapter 1 - Gabriel POV (One Day After Shooting)

I was getting tired of looking at these bland walls of my hotel - make shift - hospital and it had only been twenty-four hours since I came here, unwilling to leave and miss even a moment of Chelsea's recovery. This shit wasn't supposed to be happening right now, not to someone like Chelsea, my mate. Gunned down innocently while taking a pole fitness class, the one thing she continued to do after we were in a self - induced lockdown.

Right now, the woman in this bed wasn't my Chelsea on the outside, but I knew that the main things I loved about her, were still intact just fighting to come back. Her brown hair had been gently washed and the blood cleaned from her body, but she was still swollen, broken and small - much too small. Machines were keeping her alive for me right now, waiting for her quick healing to come into play. Others came and went, but I couldn't leave, not even to track down the fucker's stupid enough to attack my Chelsea. But while I wasn't leaving her now, that didn't mean that I wasn't planning, working things out in my head because right now, it was just as Chelsea said before.

We were goddamn sitting ducks.

A soft knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts, "come in," I said tired, unsure of who else was currently lurking outside the hospital room here at three in the morning. When the door pushed open, it revealed a grave looking Logan, casually dressed, clean shaven with a hint of pity in his eyes he examined Chelsea.

"Thought you were undercover?" I started off, knowing that word had traveled, and while many would know that Nona had died, no one was to speak of Chelsea's condition right now. I half expected Wolf to come barging in here, furious but he was helping my guys track down the two shooters that got away.

"Why isn't she healing?" Logan countered, ignoring my question.

I shrugged, "Like I fucking know? I'm not a goddamn doctor, but - she ain't healing at all," I sighed loudly wondering the same thing again.

"Undercover?"

"As far as those people are concerned, I'm inside my D.C. apartment sleeping to return for my next shift," he quirked an eyebrow at me, "What's the plan?"

"How do you know there's a plan?"

Logan just laughed, "right... you aren't leaving her side to chase no stupid shit head, you're planning. You're too fucking calm right now for you not to be forming your next move," he said easily, no humor in his voice. I nodded, he knew me well.

"If you're leaving right now..." he stopped talking wiping his hands up and down his face.

"She's my cousin," he blurted out; my head snapped to watch him, unsure what he was talking about, the confusion clear on his face. "Chelsea... our dad is Harrison 'Wolf' Colt," my head dipped, I examined his face looking for physical similarities not really finding them.

"Not me... not even compared to my mom - his mate... but-" he stopped talking lifting slightly pulling out a phone, tapping around before handing it over to me.
