After that day, I stayed every night at Derek’s house for the next week. And yes, we did have sex. More than once. But that’s not what it was about; Derek was my safe haven, my shoulder to cry on, but he was also my boyfriend – someone to laugh and joke around with, to tease and torment, and to have fun with. Derek was my everything.

“Isn’t Vampire Diaries on in 3 minutes?” Derek said, strolling into the room with a towel wrapped around his waist and his hair dripping water everywhere. I couldn’t help but ogle him for a few seconds – his bulging muscular chest, the black tattoo right between his shoulder blades, his glowing green eyes that immediately sought out mine.

“Oh my god!” I exclaimed, jumping off the bed where I’d been idly doing homework and flying down the hall, taking the steps two at a time. Crap crap crap crap crap! I heard Derek’s booming laughter behind me, but didn’t stop to yell something mean to him. Scrambling into the living room, I dove onto the couch and snatched up the remote, turning the TV on and to the CW in almost one move.

“Previously on the Vampire Diaries,” Damon’s voice said ominously, and I sighed with relief. I’d made it just in time! I sat up and got myself situated, wrapping a blanket around my legs to stay warm. At the second commercial, Derek came lumbering down the stairs, wearing only a pair of low-hanging sweatpants.

“U-um, could you hold on a second, Allison?” I squeaked into the phone, openly gaping at Derek now. He was so hot it sent shivers down my spine, and before I knew what I was doing I’d jumped off the couch, sprinting the short distance between us on the balls of my feet and launching myself into Derek’s arms. I kissed him passionately, feeling his surprised but more than willing response to my sudden assault on his face. He wrapped an arm around my waist, tracing his fingers into the dips and contours of my back. When we both pulled back, I was gasping for breath and Derek was smiling breathlessly.

“Well, hello to you, too,” he said sarcastically, and I snorted, smacking his shoulder and sliding back down to the ground.

“What are we going to do about Jeremy?” Nina Dobrev’s voice cut through our conversation, and I squealed, shoving Derek away from me and leaping back to the couch hastily.

“What-?”Derek started to say, but I shushed him and focused all my attention back to my favorite TV show. I knew I was acting neurotic, but hey- this was Vampire Diaries, and I didn’t take any chances. I heard Derek’s amused chuckle as he made his way over to the couch, plopping down beside me and pulling me onto his lap. I sighed happily, relaxing back into my boyfriend’s buff chest and enjoying the wonderfully hectic and supernatural events of Mystic Falls.  Twenty minutes later the show ended, and I was totally flipping out over the conclusion.

“I mean, WHAT THE HELL?! I can't believe that just happened! Like, I can’t even handle myself right now,” I ranted on the phone to Allison, who was also having a mini conniption fit. I paced back and forth in the living room, while Derek had disappeared into the kitchen to get something to eat.

“Derek, open up, it’s me,” a low voice boomed through the front door, a loud knock sounding.

“Allison, I gotta go,” I said quickly as Derek came running out of the kitchen, worry written all over his face. I threw my phone down onto the couch before joining my boyfriend at the door.

“Derek, who is it?” I whispered, wrapping my hand around Derek’s upper arm. His body was tense, and his hand was clenched to the doorknob.

“It’s…Isaac,” he said, almost confused, sliding the lock and pulling the heavy front door open with ease. I backed up a few steps to let Isaac in, and Derek closed the door behind him quickly, both of us staring, shocked, at Isaac.
