#15~ Legolas

PROMPT: Legolas trying to convince you to not go on the fellowship journey, but he can’t change your mind.

“You’re really thinking about accompanying the fellowship?” Legolas brought up the subject for what felt like the thousandth time just that night. You were at the point of wanting to rip his head off or feed him to a wild wolf, but you had to remind yourself that that wouldn’t solve anything. Well, it would get him to shut up, but then the courtship between the two of you would most likely be over. It was better to keep a level head while he annoyed you (even if you desperately wanted him to be quiet).

I wrapped a binding over and over again in order to cover my knuckles and the back of my hand. As I wrapped, I looked up at him with an exasperated look on my features, “of course; there’s no harm in assisting the fellowship. Extra hands will help.”

“Yes, but this is a journey to Mordor,” Legolas pointed out while he sat beside you and fiddled with the fabric of your dress that was bundled next to you as you sat. He was being awfully fidgety while he was talking to you, and it wasn’t something you were used to. With Legolas, conversation consisted of direct eye contact most of the time because he always wanted to be able to read your emotions through your eyes. Now, he had disregarded his usual behavior and was letting a slightly nervous side of himself emerge.

“I’m aware of that,” you nodded with a raised eyebrow from watching his actions. “Surely you’re not implying that I can’t handle it,” you challenged. Of course, you knew that that wouldn’t be the trouble; Legolas viewed you as his equal in every way. You had proven yourself to his father, and Legolas knew how well you could fight.

“No, of course not,” he shook his head, and for once he met your gaze. Now you could see the look in his eyes, and you could tell that there was definitely nervousness in them. Situations very rarely made him nervous, and that was enough for you to pay a bit more attention to him and what he was saying. Maybe, if he had begun the first conversation by showing the emotion things would’ve been done. You certainly wouldn’t have tuned out during the previous conversations. “I just…” he trailed off, and his hand scratched the back of his neck. He was no doubt thinking about his next words; it wasn’t often that Legolas stumbled over what to say, but when it did happen it was quite amusing. “I’m not even one hundred percent sure that I am prepared for everything that will happen on this journey. If it wasn’t for everything going on, I wouldn’t be taking the chance. There are so many different things that could go wrong and it scares me to think about having you even remotely close to the chaos.”

With your lips puckered and your knuckles wrapped, you stood and looked down at him for a moment. Piercing blue eyes looked right back into yours, and at one point you had to look away from his intense gaze. It wasn’t a long silence, but it gave you enough time to look up at the open sky above you. The stars were nestled into the dark blanket above, and they stood out like bright beacons. You connected the dots in your mind absentmindedly as if they were the points in the conversation that you were trying to focus on. Then, when you had reached your conclusion, you looked back down at Legolas with the smallest of frowns.

“I understand your worries, but I’m still going.”

GUYS, THE HOBBIT COMES OUT IN FIVE DAYS HERE! I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY. THE NEXT FEW DAYS WILL BE FILLED WITH READING THE BOOK OVER AGAIN AND JUST CRYING MY EYES OUT. I HOPE YOU ALL GET TO SEE IT AND TELL ME HOW EXCITED YOU ARE IN THE COMMENTS!
