A few days after Joe and I had gotten dinner, I find myself wiping tables at the diner, it was a slow day which meant not as much work.

"Hey Addison, if you wanna leave an hour early today you can. Since we're so slow," Judith informs me, walking out from the back room.

"Do I have to?" I ask, looking over at her. "I could still use the hours."

"Not at all. Just wanted to offer, sweetie," she tells me, giving me a smile before walking off.

Within minutes, the door finally opens with a ding indicating a customer.

"Hi honey!"  Judith calls.

"You guys are pretty slow today!" a familiar voice calls out to her.

"Yes, we are. Sit wherever honey," she tells him.

"Thanks," he responds.

I lick my lips, walking over. "Hey,"

"Hey," he grins.

"Burger, fries and water?" he asks.

"Let's get crazy and do a coke," he says, giving me a look.

"Whoa," I joke, grinning. "Let me go put that in for ya."

He nods and I walk back to the kitchen, putting in his order before bringing him a coke and moving onto my next task. Thankfully, I'm the only other person here today aside from Judith who was doing paperwork and the chef. So, I have a bit more work than I normally do on a normal day.

Taking Joe his food, I grin. "There ya go. Need another coke?"

"No, I'm good right now. Thanks Addison," he grins.

I nod, starting to walk away.

"Too busy to talk?" he asks, shoving a fry in his mouth.

I glance around. "No. I just didn't want to distract you from your food."

He chuckles. "Sit a minute?"

"I won't sit, but I suppose we could talk for a moment," I say, walking a bit closer and leaning on a nearby booth.

"How have the past few days been?" he asks.

"Okay. I've been working. You?" I ask.

He shrugs. "I've actually been staying home the past few days. I really got into a book."

"You read?"

"I was a musician not a dumbass," he chuckles.

I roll my eyes. "That's not what I meant."

He chuckles. "No, I know. I read, yeah. It's one of my relaxation techniques."

I nod. "Good to know. Planning on going to the water later today?"

"I'm not sure yet. Why? Wanna join?" he asks.

I shake my head. "No, I was just curious."

He chuckles. "Okay, well, offer stands."

I shake my head again. "I appreciate it. Although, I do have things to do tonight, so I'll have to skip it."

He nods. "Okay, I understand."

I nod. "I need to get back to work. Do you need anything before I head over to clean a few tables?"

He shakes his head. "No, um, actually the bill. I'll be done here soon."

I nod yet again. "Okay, yeah, no problem."

Running to get the check, I return in only a moment, setting it down with him so that he can eat while I clean off a few tables.
