When Ms Jenner came into work, I stood up and opened the door to my room for her "morning Ms Jenner"

"Y/n" she nodded and unlocked the door to her office. I smiled to myself because she'd acknowledged my existence in a positive way, something she'd never done before. "Y/n!" She called and I scrambled to get to her office so I wouldn't keep her waiting. She handed me five dollars "I need coffee"

"There's a Starbucks across the street, what kind do you want?"

"I want a short cup of clover brewed coffee" she said

"I'll be back soon, but it depends on how slow they are. They're not famous for being quick"

"It shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes I assume" she nodded and I shut the door quietly and hurried across the street to Starbucks for her coffee. The queue took forever, and I was getting really nervous she'd get mad at me for being longer than fifteen minutes, something I wasn't emotionally prepared for after drinking so much last night. When I finally got it, I power walked back to the office and presented it to her "change" she said and held her hand out when she'd taken a sip.

"What?"

"It's not what, it's excuse me. I want my change" she said and I got it from my pocket and handed it to her quickly. Just when I was about to leave, she said "no. I didn't excuse you. Come back, sit down" I sat down in a leather armchair and she shook her head at me and continued working. Her cell phone rang and she looked at who was calling and picked it up "hi baby" she said warmly "I miss you too. It's fine. Just my assistant. I wouldn't say a woman, she has a bit of a baby face going on. No. I don't know. Ok, just take the dogs on a walk or something. Probably about 7, I have a lot to do baby. I don't think so, but I'll text you if it's any different. I love you more. Take whichever one you want. No, not the estate one, that's for special occasions. Driving to the other end of Central Park isn't a special occasion. I can't be doing with this. No, you're not taking it and if you do, I'll hide the keys. I've done it before, you know I'll do it again. Don't try me, I'll do it. Good. I'll see you at about seven, I want dinner on the table please. And don't let me catch you in your sweats during daytime, I like to think I'm married to someone respectable. Ok, I really have to go now. Of course not, why would I want- good. Ok, I love you baby, bye" she hung up

"Does your husband stay at home?"

"What makes you think I have a husband?"

"You have a wedding band, you just said you were married to someone on the phone and you were talking like he stays at home all the time?"

"Stay out of my business Bethany"

"My name sounds nothing like Bethany, you're being facetious"

"Maybe I am Jane, but you're being nosy"

"My name isn't Jane"

"I know what it is, Faith" she said with a barely visible smile. At least she was joking now "now go back to your office Darcy"

"Thank you" I said and sat at my desk. I looked up and made eye contact with her, and she raised her eyebrows at me expectantly so I looked away and pretended to do some work. The phone rang and I picked it up unenthusiastically "sup, this is Ms Jenner's office"

"Sup, is this y/n?" Rebecca asked. I laughed because I'd just heard a 40 year old secretary saying 'sup', but I didn't want to make her feel self conscious or judged so I moved on.

"Yes"

"Could you put me through to Ms Jenner? I have someone here to see her" She said

"Of course" I said and went on the line to Ms Jenner "someone on the phone downstairs for you"
