Theory of Everything

I was agnostic for a long time
between a heathen and a saint
probably lost or still wandering

but sometimes
I would  ask myself

“How could your God
let me touch your soft hands?”

Adam did not know
that he was about to own the world,
let alone be the king of mankind.
He was created from dust,
then the other day,
he was the ruler of the earth.

And just like him
I was nobody
a no one in the crowd
a name but not a being

till you gave me existence
as if a new-found star
baptized after a scientist
or a favourite deity in
Greek mythology.

Maybe it was predestined,
already drawn in the skies,
or somehow
a lucky accident
like the day you were born
on a certain zodiac sign
still doubtful
but faithful in some way.

When our eyes met,
I was drowned in your glasses
awed and somewhat hysterical
as if Stephen Hawking
on the brink of discovering
the mystery of universe

What it was
and when it was,
where we came from
and where we are going
Should the universe come together
or should forever expand,
creating countless possibilities —
no one knows how it happened
or what has to come.

Only one thing is certain to me,
you are the Theory of Everything
that your God gave as answer
to my queries.
