Rhea's POV

I opened the door to find... "Jasper."

"Rhea," he rasped out.

I ran to his side and tried to pry the chains loose but they wouldn't budge. I ran back to the door and yelled, "He's down here!"

"Rhea, you need to leave."

"No! I'm not leaving you. I spent all this time being pissed at you and your family for leaving me and I am not going to do the same. I refuse to leave you."

I felt a whoosh and the rest of the clan was here. Ryan and Emmett used their strength to pry the chains loose. Rosalie held me back from Jasper but I struggled in her arms. He was within reach and I wasn't going to let him slip away from me a second time. Jasper, as if sensing my destress, let out a feral growl. Rosalie backed away from me and I wrapped my hands around his torso. His arms wound around my waist and his head became buried in my neck.

I could hear the soft shuffling of feet telling me that they were giving us some privacy. I felt feather-light kisses being placed on my neck and Jasper's grip tightened; not enough to be painful but enough so I wouldn't break free. Sharp teeth punctured my skin and I felt my energy draining. I expected it to hurt but all I felt was pleasure. One of my hands found it's way into Jasper's hair and I gave it a tug. The teeth detached from my neck and a tongue ran along the bitemark.

Jasper pulled back from me and I looked into his eyes expecting to see blood red. All I saw was deep brown eyes. Little veins appeared under his eyes and I ran my thumb across them.

"What just happened?" Jasper asked, swaying slightly.

"I don't know but we can figure it out tomorrow. Right now you need to hunt," I said steadying him.

We walked out of the creepy building and Ryan was at Jasper's other side to help carry him. Rosalie offered to carry me back to her house and I accepted. Once inside I had Carlisle look at the bitemark. He told me that he hadn't seen anything like it before. The effects of the blood loss finally caught up with me. I walked up to Jasper's room and crawled into the bed. My eyelids fluttered shut and I waited for sleep to claim me.

The next morning I woke up alone. It didn't surprise me. I walked downstairs half expecting them to be gone and for all of it to be a dream. To my surprise, Esme was cooking and Rosalie was helping her. I sat at one of the island chairs and watched them.

"Where's Jasper?" I asked.

Esme turned around and set a plate of eggs, bacon, and toast in front of me. "He's still out hunting. Whatever they did to him took a lot out of him."

"I should call my Dad, tell him that we found Jasper." I quickly finished my breakfast before calling Dad. He was relieved that Jasper was safe. I told him that I would be back in time for dinner. He said that he understood and that he wanted to have a talk with Jasper when he saw him next. I told Dad that it wasn't necessary but it fell on deaf ears.

Emmett, Ryan, and Jasper came back around noon. When Jasper walked in I could tell that something was different. His skin tone had some color to it, his eyes were a chocolate brown, and he seemed confused. I slowly walked over to him and gently took his hand. His eyes met mine and I did my best to reassure him that he was safe and that I wasn't mad at him. He wrapped his arms around me and I let him hold me. His shoulders shook and I felt something wet hit my shoulder. Heavy footsteps entered the room but Jasper did not release me.

"Jasper, we need to do some tests," Carlisle said softly like he was trying not to startle Jasper.

Jasper continued to ignore him but his sobs quieted. I let my hand rub up and down his back. He slowly pulled away and his eyes were slightly puffy. He really had been crying. "Jasper," I said softly. "Can we go run those tests for Carlisle? When he's done we can go cuddle in your room." He slowly nodded his head and together we walked upstairs to Carlisle's home office.

A few hours later and the tests were done. Carlisle concluded that Jasper was still a vampire but his physiology had changed so much that he was more human-like. His speed and strength were that of a vampire but he had a heartbeat and his body temp was that of a human. One final test would be if he could eat. I suggested that we order a pizza. That way if it didn't work I could take it home and Dad could help me finish it.

As Esme ordered the pizza, Jasper and I cuddled in his room. His head was on my lap and I had one hand running through his hair while the other was holding my journal. I decided to read him a few pages that were mostly mushy stuff. They were about how much I missed everybody and how alone I felt. I wasn't trying to make him feel bad but remind him that some part of me always loved him even if I was mad at him.

The pizza arrived and Rosalie brought it up to the room. Jasper sat up and tentatively took a bit of the pizza. He chewed and he swallowed then he said, "it tastes good." Together we ate the pizza and I turned on the history channel, hoping to cheer him up.

A few hours later and it was dinner time. Rosalie offered to drive me home and I accepted. Along the drive, I told her that I forgave her. If she could cry I bet she would've. I also told her that I wanted to figure out why she never got my calls and she agreed with me. Before I left the car I asked her if she would tell Jasper to come to my room tonight if he wanted. She said that she would pass the message along.

AN ~ Jasper is like the type of vampire as in Vampire Diaries but he doesn't need a ring for the sunlight. His skin retained some of the indestructible qualities but the pigment of his skin tone got rid of the sparkling.
