AT PRESENT TIME
( DANI's POV )
First Day of school. Grabe, pasukan na naman. Nakakabitin ang bakasyon. We just got back from Korea. Nanood kami ng Asian Games where Gilas Pilipinas bagged the Gold. Congratulations to the whole team especially to my Manong. What a way to welcome June!
Nauna na kami umuwi nina Daddy, Mommy at Kuya Thirdy pabalik ng Manila. May mga kani-kaniyang commitments din kasi kami.
Bale, naiwan pa lahat ng players and coaching staff for some engagements and for a well-deserved pampering. Kawawa lang my Manong. He was left all alone. Lahat ng teammates nya, halos kasama mga families nila. Di bale, we're planning of throwing a surprise party as soon as he comes back.
Oh well, back to reality.
I am excited to meet my new students. Yeah! It's been my 2nd school year teaching here in Don Bosco - Makati. I am handling Grade 1 students. I teach Math and English. Masaya ako sa trabaho ko. Pagkapasa ko ng board exam, I received offers from different schools. Hindi naman po sa pagyayabang but I topped the Board Exam. Anyway, I chose Don Bosco kasi aside from the very good academic program, they develop students to actively participate and be involved in life of the Church and community, plus malapit lang ang school to our house.
I was browsing through the rosters of my students. I have 38 all in all. And I will be the class adviser for Blessed Michael Rua. Something caught my eye. Goosebumps all over my body. I have a student whose name is Reyes, Kiefer Isaac M.
Wow! Am I dreaming? Mali ba ako ng basa? Inulit kong basahin, from top to bottom yung papel na hawak ko. Tama naman. Name ko naman yung nasa adviser. At ito nga ang list ng students ko.
Shucks! Hindi ko alam kung anong meron pero sobrang excited akong makita itong batang 'to. Sa dami naman ng ipapangalan ng parents nya, kelangan talaga Kiefer Isaac pa?
Baka idol nila ang Kuya ko at nataong Reyes ang apelyido. What a coincidence? Hello serendipity lang ang peg. Haha! Stop it Dani! Stop overthinking. Go ahead and meet your students.
Huminga muna ako ng malalim and say a little prayer before I entered the classroom. The boys stood up and greeted me good morning!
"Good morning everyone! You may now take your seats. Thank you."
"By the way, I am teacher DANIELLE THERIS CRISOLOGO RAVENA. But you can call me DANI for short. I will be your class adviser. I am really glad to finally meet all of you."
"So, are you all excited to meet your classmates?"
"Aba mahina, you seem to be sleepy pa ah. Ok, let's have an icebreaker first."
After the icebreaker. The boys started to introduce themselves. I wrote on the board the sequence on how they will do their introduction.

"Good morning classmates. Good morning Teacher Dani. My name is Kiefer Isaac M. Reyes. You can call me MICOI. I am turning 7 on January 14. I love to play basketball and Kobe Bryant is my idol. Thank you."
I am SO destructed. I can't concentrate. I was shaking. My whole body was like immovable for a minute. Can't utter a single word. Micoi! Micoi! You look exactly like my brother. I would like to think that this is just mere coincidence but my heart tells me otherwise.
I needed to compose myself. C'mon Dani, get back to work.
Good Lord! Help me finish this one. This is the first day of school.
Ambilis ng oras, di ko na namalayan. The bell rang. And we're finally done for today. Half day lang mga kids since they are in Grade 1.
"Uhmmmm, Micoi. Can you please stay for a minute?" Naglakas loob akong kausapin sya. Base sa accent ni Micoi, halatang di sya nagtatagalog.
"Yes teacher Dani." Sabi sakin sabay lumapit sya.
"Are you riding the school bus or someone's gonna pick you up?" I nervously asked.
"Mommy is coming here to pick me up teacher."
"Ok then, see you again tomorrow. And remember to please bring your birth certificate and baptismal certificate, ok. It's actually written in your diary. All of you need to bring it for our record."
"Ok teacher. See you tomorrow. Bye."
"Uhmmm, wait Micoi. Can you give me a hug?"
"Sure teacher."
And I hugged him so tight. Oh God, Micoi. There's no denying that you are my brother's own flesh and blood. I was in tears hugging this little man. I can never be wrong. ANAK KA NG KIEFER ISAAC RAVENA!!!!
