Chapter 13

Well, it's almost been a month, and I still haven't forgiven him. He really should not have kissed me that day under the bridge, and I probably shouldn't have slapped him after, but that's not the point. First of all he's engaged; you don't kiss another girl when you're engaged! Second of all, I had so not been in the mood for a make out session, which is why the kiss barely lasted two seconds. Third of all, a few days before he hadn't even liked me, and now he had wanted to kiss me. Not okay. So not okay. Anyway, I haven't spoken to him in a month, and he didn't even try to speak to me either; I'm guessing it was because I hit him, and he didn't really like that.  Sigh, oh well, that's what he gets for trying to make a move on me during a bad day.

"I think you should forgive him." Breena said to me as we swam around the kingdom, Cyri closely by our side. "It is not his fault if you are so likable." I snorted, since when was I likable?

The princesses were aware of my whole situation, because I couldn't keep in all balled up inside of me, and there was no way I was sharing what happened with Taiven with Danicio. Besides, Breena and Cyri were the closest thing I had to friends down here—the king didn't really approve, but the princesses didn't seem to care what he thought either. I think I have a bad influence on them.

"I know I should" I mumbled playing with my hands as we swam. "But I think it's better for us if I do not—I mean don't." Damn, the whole mermaid speaking was already creepy up on me. I really didn't wanna sound like them. "I'm kinda just messing up his whole engagement, and we all know how I am just driving Adara crazy just by being inside the castle."

"I like having you in the castle." Cyri small beautiful voice cut in. "It has been much more amusing since you arrived. You know, just the other day, I caught a guard trying to catch his tail. I supposed that is of your influence." That made me smile; I guess my pathetic last resort game was catching on.

I sighed. "Tell you what." I said rather decidedly. "If Taiven makes the first move to talk to me, I will not only forgive him, but I shall also apologise for hitting him." Ugh, I used a way bigger vocabulary then I thought I did. This is so not good.

"I think that sounds fair." Cyri agreed, looking at her sister.

"I do as well, but you know Taiven rarely makes up for his actions." Breena stopped swimming and looked at me. "In his mind, everyone is inferior to him. Perhaps maybe you found a way to break some sort of barrier, but in the end you are just one of his subjects, like the rest of us."  Well, she just killed off my almost good mood for the day.

Because it was Monday, it was time for me to go up to the surface. I'd gotten into the habit of going up every few days, and the king didn't say anything about it because he was just happy that I was leaving him and his castle alone. I now even have clothes that are my size, which is by the way very awesome.

Every time I went up, I was very careful not to run into my brother, and so far I have been very successful. Mind you, he might have left town along with a lot of other people since the hurricane stroked. The only things that are still standing were a few apartment buildings and houses, a couple of grocery stores and restaurants, and I think a thrift store or two. The waves hadn't been as big as the one from thirty years ago, but it had been very close. From what I hear, a lot of people died, but from the news I've gathered, my brother way okay. So, I didn't have that to worry about that.
