[[Suki's POV]]
"Gaara," I sigh.
"Yeah?"
We are walking back home after a long day of training.
"I'm tired," I whine.
"Oh, Suki," Gaara says to me. "So needy, tsk tsk." He gives me a silly smile and turns around. I artfully leap onto his back and rest on his gourd. He lifts me up higher so that I sit on his shoulders, like a father carrying his child. He holds my legs and starts walking.
"Thanks," I say softly.
He shakes his head. "You little weakling."
I stick my tongue out and flick his ear.
"Hey!" He exclaims.

I roll over and poke Gaara's shoulder.
"Gaara, I know you're awake."
"Yeah, yeah," he mumbles.
"Gaara." I make my tone serious. He turns to face me.
"What?"
"I don't like this...mission Baki sensei gave us."
"Yeah, nor do I," he confesses.
"You just-" I stop myself. His father is a touchy subject.
"It doesn't necessarily have to do with him." He sighs.
"But it does."
"Okay, so what?"
"...nothing."
"I'm glad we don't have to stay with him," he says. "or Temari and Kankuro."
"Yeah," I say, even though I don't really mind his brother and sister. I still like it better the way it is now. Since Yashamaru died, we got his house. Just the two of us.
"Anyways..." Gaara yawns.
"I can't sleep," I confess.
"Shh, Suki-chan." He puts his arm around my back and hugs me. "Now you can sleep away your worries."
"Thank you," I whisper.
[[Gaara's POV]]
I put my arm around Suki's back and hug her. I instantly feel warm and happy. Hugging her makes me feel so much better, at any time. I don't even care that she spoke about my father, all I care is that she's there wrapped in my left arm.
