Dear soldier,
You are most probably not alive now. You may have died at, or because of, the war. You have suffered, and you have sacrificed: your family, your health, your body, your emotions, and perhaps your life.
What you did not know, at least at the time, that you have contributed to the most important change in the world. For centuries, sages, philosophers and religious leaders dreamt of an international assembly for arbitration and maintaining of peace between nations. The League of Nations was at last born. And yes, it may not have been effective, but it led to the formation of the United Nations and the Security Council after yet more of your colleagues suffered and sacrificed.
The world learns incrementally, and through the agonies of men and women like you, peace will inevitably be established, and future generations will remember you, and pray for your soul, and yes…will thank you
Rest in Peace, my friend, my brother, and my fellow human.
