Decay

As the last breath faded from the innocent child

Thousand of tears envoloped the parents' faces

All that was true has been wiped from reality

The mistake was made by all but one

But a consequence that affects all only one

The cold clouded shadow surrounded the child

Clearly again it was another day of neglect for her

Not a word can be said to express the solace

The solace that was never given when it mattered

Long ago she had fallen, now it is merely decay

Looming guilt surrounds them all like the day itself

There is no escaping the fantasy of their care

Like the cool winter evening of a holiday past

When they all were alive, watching her decay

Sweeping the bones into the closet another time

Now that her worst kept secrets are realized

Its time for the parents to finally recognize

What was lost long ago that was swept ashore

Is too far gone, with far too much decay, to cry for

So they turn their backs on her, one last time
