Unsent Letter #20 - Pride

54 1 1

I've always known

You were better than me

From the day we met

It's a wound that wont heal.

You never cease

To surpass me;

You run faster than I.

You've run past me;

The world loves you

And you're ahead of them.

You're the one people look to;

You're the center of attention.

I don't matter

When you're around.

I have no meaning

When you're about;

Your all I wasn't

And so much more.

It's like no one needs me;

With me they're bored.

You've always been

The pride of the family;

My parents love you

And so do yours;

Go back generations,

They'll only love you more,

But I know what speaks this

Is only my pride.

This is inferiority,

It's jealousy and spite.

This is what I wanted to leave;

I wanted to leave it all behind,

But its hard to push back

And its hard to hide

When I now feel worthless

Because you can take my place.

It's hard to dream

When your superiority gets in my way.
