The Little Girl

I had escaped to that room

Before they remodeled it and

Sat there in silence because I

Was trying to sort things out.

Everything was just starting

Then and it was overwhelming.

I wished someone would come

And save me from myself, but

Then again no one ever comes.

I sat there for some time with the

Door half open to the lighted

Hallway. Then I heard their

Footsteps; it was a little girl

And an older woman who

Seemed to be in a hurry the

Girl was talking, she wanted

To stay. When she passed the

Classroom I heard her little

Voice say "but mommy that

Girl is sad" and then they

Disappeared through the door.

That little girl still goes to

Our church and sometimes

I see her. Even though I know

she never remembers me,

And it's probably good that

She doesn't.
