Chapter 14

I wore jeans , boots and a v-neck t shirt with a leather jacket as I drove a red 1950 corvette . I sighed and ran a hand through my hair . I couldn't believe I was driveing this . I hadn't driven it in years . Not since Edward had given it to me for my birthday over 70 years ago . He liked to buy me cars . That's why I have a garage full of old cars and sports cars . When he was here last , he made me promise to drive it . He named it Tornado . Yeah , I know , but what can I say ?

I pulled into the Mystic Falls High School parking lot and everyone's mouthes dropped open and I saw Stefan's eyes get wide .

I parked and the car and while I was still sitting in the front seat , Matt , Tyler , Stefan , Elena and Caroline walked up .

I had my shades on as I applied some chapstick in the mirror as Elena cleared her throat and I turned to her .

" Oh , can I help you ? " I asked , casually .

" Cool car . " Matt said , practically drooling .

" Thanks , it was a birthday present . " I said .

" From who ? " Caroline pryed .

" A friend . My best friend . " I said .

They looked confused .

" But he lives out of state . " I added .

" Maybe we can take it for a spin sometime. " Tyler said , winking .

I rolled my eyes .

Stefan was silent , with Elena clinging to his arm .

" I should get to class . " I said as I got out and pushed passed them .

Class was boreing , and at lunch , I grabbed my lunch and a book and went and sat out on the football field .

I'd finished an orange and I was throwing my apple up and down , catching it easily , while reading , when I heard someone walk up and sit down .

I looked over at Stefan , who was watching me intently with a tray in his hands .

" I have this strange feeling that you're avoiding me . " Stefan said .

" What made you guess ? " I asked sarcastically .

Stefan looked hurt .

" I'm sorry , I'm just still in shock , Stefan and it's not easy seeing you all the time knowing ....... " I trailed off .

" Knowing that we were once in love. " Stefan finished .

I nodded .

" Things have changed . I've changed . " I added .

" I understand. " he said .

I nodded again and then Caroline came skipping up .

" Yes ? " Stefan asked .

" Actually , I was wondering if Sydeny wanted to help us with the " Sexy Suds " carwash fundraiser this weekend .

They both stared at me .

" Oh ... um .... sure . " I said quietly .

Caroline squeaked .

" YAY ! You're so cool , it will be GREAT having you there . " she said .

Caroline pulled me into a hug.

" Don't forget to wear a bikinni and look hot . " she said , before skipping off somewhere .

" I wasn't expecting that . " I said .

Stefan laughed .

" What , don't tell me you're actually going to wear a bikinni to wash cars for money . It's practically like you're a stripper . " he joked .

We both laughed and ate out lunch .
