I walk into calculus, with one earbud in and half of an attention span. I walked to the back of the room in my usual spot. I'm almost always the last one in the room because my culinary class before this is all the way across campus.
Half of the people in the class I don't really know and the other half I really don't like, so it's definitely not my social hour.
As the bell rung, a tall boy ran through the door, out of breath. He stood up straight and I got a good view of his face. Everyone else did too, because he caused quite the scene.
"Are you Gregory? The exchange student?" Our prehistoric teacher asked, not seeming to notice him busting through the door.
"Grayson. And yes, I am the exchange student." He said in a French accent, walking up to give her a fist bump.
She stared down at his fist, confused. I felt kind of bad but the class snickered. He looked at everyone confused.
"Sit next to (y/n)." she sighed as she pointed over at me, denying his fist bump. He looked over at me and gave a small smile.
At that moment I got to really see his features in detail. His eyes were brown, matching his hair. His face was chiseled, and a nice tan shade. I could tell from where I was he is very tall.
He walked over, and sat next to me. Oddly enough, I felt nervous. Really nervous. So, I started things off with a joke.
"Dude, did you just try to fist bump an 80 year old woman?" I asked with a small laugh. Not in a mean way, but as welcoming as I could be. He frowned, and obviously took it to heart. "I'm kidding." I said quickly with a smile. His face lightened and he let out a sigh of relief.
"Derek from first period says it is a teenage way of saying hello." He whispered in his sweet accent, blushing. I cleared my throat, and got out my notebook.
I could feel him watching what I did, and he grabbed a blank notebook from his back pack. I realized I hadn't introduced myself, feeling rude.
"I'm (y/n)." I said, sticking out my fist, making Grayson smile. He gave me a 'totally hip' fist bump and introduced himself.
"I'm Grayson. I'm an exchange student from France, I will be here for the rest of the school year." It was a little hard to understand the accent, but I knew what he was saying.
"Dope, I think you will like it here." I said giving him a pat on the shoulder and getting to my work.
About a minute went by, until he said something.
"What is 'dope'? I am still learning American slang." He sighed, obviously confused. I pursed my lips to a smile suppressing a laugh.
"It means cool, or good. Something used positively. Or a drug. Don't get it confused." I stressed, and he nodded his head.
He reached into his bag again, and grabbed a new notebook. I got a glance of the words on the cover, and it read "Slang to Learn."
He scribbled his new word on to the paper, and gave it a satisfied smile.
"Can I see that?" I asked, sticking my hand out to grab it. He reluctantly handed it to me, and I read over his new vocabulary.
Yo: hello
Sup: how are you doing/ what are you doing (what's up)
Lit: fun and cool
Fake people: liars
Smash: sex, or to pummel
Dope: cool. Or drugs.

"Gary Donald, come get your textbook." Mrs. Court called. Even Grayson understood that she meant his name, so he stood up to get it.
Before he came back, I wrote-
Hit me up sometime: call me 123)420-6969
And threw the notebook back in his bag. He came back and sat down, starting his work.
The period went by pretty fast, and before I knew it the bell rung. We all packed up, and I said to Grayson,
"You should hit me up sometime." He looked into his little book preparing to write down his new vocabulary, and saw what I wrote. He grinned and looked up at me.
"Tu es très belle" he said with a wink and walked out of the classroom. I have no idea what he said- but somehow it made me blush.
