A Random Train of Thought

So I decided to maybe, just maybe do a little twist on the Soulmate AUs I've been seeing everywhere.

As it's defined:

soul mate
noun
1 : a person who is perfectly suited to another in temperament
2 : a person who strongly resembles another in attitudes or beliefs

It doesn't really mean that soulmates must love each other, right? I mean, I do love Soulmate AUs, and I love how many people do interesting twists on them, but this really bugged me.

What if someone finds his soulmate to be someone he knew all along and loved, but that person only views him platonically—or even hatefully? (For the latter part, I think someone can detest someone else for reminding him of himself.)

As you probably saw in the previous segment for the divide series I'm planning (which is a collection of USUK fics in varying scenarios), there's one fic there which fits this theme perfectly.

And that's If I Told You (I Love You).

"If I told you I love you," he says, and he's watching him as the Briton cranes his neck back so he can look at the starry night, "can you look me in the eyes and lie that you love me too?"

And Alfred waits, his breath catching as Arthur smiles sadly. "Undoubtedly."

^^ possible scene for this.

What do you think?
