Chapter 24:

“Nathan James, please stop messing about and just sit and eat your dinner!” I told my son, who thought it was funny to create pictures with his tomato pasta on the table.

“But Mumma!” He whined in response, pouring the rest of his dinner over the table, some landing on the head of his dog who was sat down on the floor beside him.

“Nathan don’t answer back, please baby, Mummy’s not in the best of moods,” I sighed, walking over to the sink and grabbing the dishcloth, before waddling back and wiping all the sauce of the table and off of Nathan’s face.

I heard a knock at the door and walked over to answer it, peering into the little look out hole in the middle of my door.

“Blake…” I said, almost in greeting as I opened the door. He was stood there with his hands in his pockets, smiling at me. Belle popped out from behind him, giggling away.

“What has happened?” I asked, curiously. Belle came rushing towards me and ran into my house, heading straight towards the dining room where Nathan was eating.

“We bought some things for your baby today, we saw them and couldn’t help it!” She told me, lying out baby-grows and small dummies and bibs on the table, all of them in creams of course.

“It would have been a lot easier if you knew the gender of the baby though, Rose,” Blake said as he sat with Nathan, helping him eat his food.

“We don’t want to know until the delivery,” Noah said as he walked into the dining area that was attached to the kitchen. He ruffled Nate’s hair as he walked past, on his way to the coffee machine.

“It’s what I did with Nathan,” I told them, shrugging, “I didn’t know he was a beautiful baby boy until the nurses announced it. I love surprises, and I cant wait for this one in three weeks,” I said as I rubbed my baby bump.

“It’s so difficult though! It is really hard to find nice, unisex clothes for babies! You two are so mean,” Belle moaned as she crossed her arms across her chest, a very small baby bump visible.

“We want to wait and see! It won’t be long now, so be patient!” I said laughing as she pouted.

“Daddy, I’m finished!” Nathan called out to Noah, reaching his arms up so he could be lifted out of his high chair.

I went after Noah on Christmas Day, as I didn’t want to lose him again, I loved him too much for him to slip through my fingers and never see each other again. I also couldn’t let my children grow up without their father in their lives considering how much Noah adored Nate and our unborn child.

When I found him sat in the spare reception room of our house that Christmas Day, his head in his hands and his shoulders slumped over, my heart shattered into tiny pieces.
