Chapter 14:

“Mumma!” Nate shouted running up to me as I stepped through the doorway of my Mum’s house. Last night had gone well, the only problem being that Ellie still holds a grudge against her little brother.

“Careful bud.” Noah said, stepping in front of me and sweeping Nathan up into his arms. Nate whined about wanting a cuddle from me but Noah just walked into my Mum’s house, obviously forgetting my family aren’t exactly too happy with him.

“Hello beautiful, did you have a good time at Nanny’s?” I cooed at my son, fluffing up his hair as he rested his head on Noah’s shoulder.

He nodded at me and put his thumb in his mouth. His eyelids closing slightly; he was obviously worn out.

“Nathan, don’t put your thumb in your mouth honey, I don’t want you to fall ill because of all the germs you are putting inside of you.” I gently tugged his hand away from his face and held it in mine as I gave my son a smile, causing his whole face to light up.

“You look pwetty Mumma.” He told me, making me want to squeeze his little cheeks.

“I agree son, very pretty.” Noah added as we walked out into the garden where my Mum sat with my brother and his children.

“Oh darling! I didn’t here the door! Nathan, you must not open my front door like that without asking.” My Mum said, looking up at Nate in his Daddy’s arms. “And who is this?” She questioned, taking a step closer to Noah and looking him up and down.

I took a deep breath and introduced him, taking a step closer to Noah and Nathan. Noah wrapped his free arm around my waist but I pulled away, not wanting to show my Mother false information.

“Noah Anderson. I never thought I’d ever see you again.” She sneered at him, pushing her glasses higher up her nose to get a better look at him. “My, my, you have changed. For the better, I hope.” She said as she lifted Nathan out of his arms. “Now, I want a cuddle with my grandson and to get him away from this dreadful man.”

“Mum!” I argued. “Noah is his Father, you have no right to take Nate away from him.” I walked over to her and took him out of her arms, placing him on the floor.

“Now you go and play with your cousins.” I whispered in his ear as I gave him a gentle push towards the swing-set. He happily ran off towards Bobby’s children as they argued with eachother. I heard Bobby sigh from the bench and walk off towards them.

“No, that’s alright. I deserve everything because I was an awful person to your daughter. I was selfish, always thinking about myself. I understand why you must hate me.” Noah apologised, once again putting his arm around my waist and once again getting it pushed off.

“Oh Noah, I don’t hate you. I despise you.” She said and walked over to her grand-children. I turned to Noah and shrugged.

“Sorry about her. You should’ve known you had it coming.” I followed my Mum, leaving Noah just staring at my back. My phone started vibrating and I dug into my pocket to answer it.
