It was a little past ten when I checked the time. I waited for a few more minutes before excusing myself from the knights I was assigned with. There were five of us stationed here so it was not that much of a problem if I left them.

"Knight Ron!"

I was heading upstairs when a maid called this body's name. She exuded excitement, making me perturbed as she batted those lashes at me.

"Are you busy?" asked the woman.

"The Captain has sent me for some errands, Miss," I answered using Ron's voice.

"Why so formal, Ron? It's not like you to do your work seriously. Why don't we have some fun later?" Her giggles resounded and I quickly knew what was going on.

Tsk. Men.

"I better leave," I said, striding past her.

I went up to the second floor, turned left, and walked straight. There, I saw a steel door chained by a lock. It was similar to the one I was assigned to, the only difference was there were only two knights guarding it. I carefully listened to my surroundings. There was really no one except them.

My lips curled. This was the easiest job by far. Even the infiltration was a success. Their idea to confuse me was really good but poorly executed. If I did not know anything, I might be tricked by this kind of mind game and wasted my time.

But there was one thing I had learned about the Marquis. He was too confident and prideful. He did not even transfer the jewel from the original room, thinking he would fool me. This room was the least guarded and there were even no knights outside when I came earlier.

They should have evenly distributed the knights instead or perhaps simply focused on this room. Even I had to admit it would probably be difficult since they outnumbered me.

"Knight Jack! Knight Ken!" I called.

Of course, I learned about them. I didn't memorize all of the knights but I knew the ones who were guarding the jewel.

"Knight Ron!" they greeted.

"Knight Jack, the Captain said he wanted to see you," I lied.

"But who'll guard the room? The thief may come any moment," Knight Jack replied. his eyebrows wrinkling.

"Guess, it will be me," I said, indifferently.

"Okay, then," he approved and left without doubts.

Minutes passed while I was silently standing in my post like a real knight when I heard a noise from inside.

"What was that?" I asked and put my ear on the door.

The other knight did the same.

"Did the thief come already?"

"I don't know. It's a pity he is in the wrong room though. I believe it's in the parlor," Knight Ken said, shrugging.

The noise got louder. The clatter even echoed in the quiet hallway.

"We need to inform Captain. Hurry and tell him!" I ordered and he diligently followed.

When I made sure I was alone, I tried to recall the keys as my forefinger morphed into one.

It was not just human forms I could copy. I had the ability to transform into anything I touched, even objects. The memory was still vivid the first time I did it. It was rather disturbing to see my body turn into objects but I gradually got used to it. Though, I avoided using it as much as possible.

A rare luck! The door was finally opened on the third try.

Upon entering, it was dark inside but the Mermaid's Tear shone brightly. It looked exactly like the drawing. It was definitely sapphire seeing that unmistakable luster of the gemstone.
