In the beginning of Ilvermorny, students were allowed to bring pets of suitable size to the School Grounds. However, when the school expanded, the increase of pets made it difficult to keep the school's estate maintained. A few incidents with magical pets including domestic Demiguises, Bowtruckles, and a failed attempt at domesticating a Niffler, led to the School Board deciding private pets should no longer be allowed to roam the hall freely.
Every student still has the right to be accompanied by a private owl, for message purpose only, or can make use of the School's owls.
However if students still wish for animal contact, they can sign up as the Care Team of the several animals belonging to the school. Depending on the amount of students applying, a group of students gets the chance to take care of some magical creatures under the supervision of the professors. The School is very proud of its aviary, including both exotic and native species, and their limited menagerie.
