A Rainy Summer 32

Start from the beginning

“Good morning,” Liam spoke quietly, rubbing his eyes repeatedly.

“Morning!” A smile crept to my lips, as I watched him yawn lightly, “how are you feeling today?” I asked, sitting down on the closest chair to his bed.

“Terrible, I feel like I was sleeping for ten days,” Liam sulked, and messaged his stiff neck.

I chuckled and said. “Well, you have been sleeping for almost fifteen hours. Thnks to the sleep medication the doctor gave you.”

Liam’s eyes widened in shock. “Wow, that’s a lot. I don’t think I had slept that long in my whole life,” another stifled cough escaped his mouth.

“Maybe, I should go and get the doctor, so he can check up on you,” I mumbled, and began to rise from my seat, but Liam’s hand grasped my wrist quickly.

“No, don’t go,” he turned towards me, and shook his head.

“I’m not leaving, Liam. I’m only going to inform the doctor that you woke up, he needs to examine you,” I told him.

“Don’t go, please. . . . I need to talk to you, please,” he begged, giving me a pleading look.

What’s wrong with him? Why is he so worried about me leaving him?

I sighed and held his hand in mine. “Listen to me, I was here all night. I never left, and I’m not planning to, alright,” I uttered, giving his a slightly reassuring squeeze.

“You stayed with me, even after I fell asleep?”

I responded with a nod. “I’ll go get the doctor now, and we can talk when I come back.”

Obeying the doctor’s orders, I stood outside the room as I waited for him to finish examining Liam. Taking a sip from the steaming hot coffee I bought from the cafeteria, I glanced at the empty hallway, it was awfully quiet, I could have easily mistaken it with a haunted hospital. I couldn’t help but shudder at thoughts of it being my own future home, I was doomed to spend my last days in the hospital, and I needed to accept that soon.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, the screen lit up and stared back at me. Taking a deep breath, I clicked on Jordan’s name for the eleventh time, and waited –and waited, but he never picked up. I ended up leaving him, yet another desperate voice mail, in hopes of finding a way to reach out to him.

What if he decided that he doesn’t want anything to do with me anymore?

How can I fight this without my brother?

Out of the sudden, a loud shriek resonated from Liam’s room, my heart jolted up at hearing the shrilling sound. Within seconds, frightening emotions traveled down my body, assuming that the worse had occurred. That all vanished, when I entered the room, and saw that both the doctor and the nurse were laughing their face off.

Liam was holding his head in his hand, one of his hands roamed all over the white large bandage that draped his head, trailing the empty space that was once occupied by a soft messy hair.

“Where is my hair? Where did my hair go?” Liam questioned, with a terrified look.

Poor guy. . . his hair was gone. .

“What in the world did you do with my hair? I want it back. Give me my hair back!” He yelled, his expression was full of anger and irritation.
