It was exactly a week before my birthday and Jessica was super thrilled. Although it was my birthday I couldn't help but manage to feel depressed. Jessica changed the whole theme of the party and said we should have a costume party since my birthday was closer to that one holiday. Yeah, Halloween, the holiday I despised. I mean getting candy and trick or treating is great when your seven. But the fact that people dress up as serial killers and think its hilarious is utterly absurd to me. I didn't mind the girls dressing up in skimpy outfits, cause most of them did that on a regular basis, its just the scary ones that bothered me the most.

It's Friday afternoon and I'm at Jessica's playing Call of Duty in Jason's room on his Xbox. I know what your thinking, killing people and all that, but this my friend is just a game. I know the difference between fantasy and reality.

"Uh, Alba are you even listening to me?"

"Uh, yeah. Uh-huh." I said starring at the t.v.

"No, your not." She said clicking the off button on the remote.

"Hey, I was winning!" I wined trowing the remote on Jason's bed.

"Alba, seriously. What are you going to be? We need to know so no one else can dress the same as you."

"I don't know what I want to be." I admitted and at that moment I came across a comic of Marvels, you know the one known for Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc. Well, I thought about being Super Woman, but that showed to much. I wanted to dress up but I just didn't know who.

"Well, who are you going to be?" I asked Jess.

"I'm not sure yet. Its between A dead Bride and Lady Gaga."

"That sound interesting. I say you should be a dead Lady Gaga?"

"Oh, god, Alba that's perfect. This, is why we are best friends." Jess said hugging me sideways, my shoulder was in between her boobs. "So what about you?"

"I don't know. I'll let you know when I find out. I have to go." I said jumping out of Jason's gaming chair and heading down stairs. Ever since the little incident with me fainting in the hall and Jason coming to my rescue, things have been different with us. It's like he tries not to be around me or when I am around, he leaves. It's so weird, I don't know what I did to him to give me this kind of reaction.

The only reason I was going home was because my dad was leaving for a major business trip and they were going to be gone for three weeks. If I would have known that I would have thrown the party at my place, but it's still happing at Jessica's. My mom made dinner for us for the first time in a week and it was huge. Like a thanksgiving feast. I wonder why she made so much food. I walked in greeting my parents and Derek. The doorbell rang and Derek got up to answer it. Sage and her parents walked in, and just behind them was Erin and her parents. Oh my lord, why did my mom have to be so clueless. When I told her we weren't friends anymore I meant it. My dad had put the other connectors on the table making it longer. We used these only when multiple people were coming. It looked like he had put both of them in. As I was setting the table, I noticed we had an extra four seats. Great who else could be coming. The doorbell rang and this time I answered it. It was Jessica and her family. Neither of us knew that this was going to happen but it was happening. Jason didn't look to thrilled either.

"What the fuck dude?" Jess whispered in my ear as she greeted me at the door.

"I know the barbies are here too."

"No, way."

"Yup." I said closing the door making my way towards the dinning room.

My mom and dad sat at either ends of the table. Next to my mom on the right was me, Jessica, Derek, and Erin's parents, Erin's dad siting at the edge next to my dad. On the left of my mom was Sage's mom then dad then Erin and Sage. Next to Sage was Jason, she seemed to be delighted by the fact that she was sitting next to him. I was on the other hand, jealous. Yes, I'll admit it, I'm jealous.

We all ate in silence. A little chatter here and there. I couldn't help but notice that Sage and Jason were talking..... A lot. What on earth could they be talking about. I doubt they had anything in common. I looked up to see Sage exaggerating laughing and ruffing around his hair, eyeing me. I looked at Jess who happen to look at me at the same time in disgust. We both rolled our eyes in sync and Jason seemed to be enjoying it. What the hell, from the last time we hung out, we were sitting on the couch his arms around me while we watched t.v. I thought he liked me, I guess I was wrong. After dinner I saw Sage take Jason's phone and do something with it, I'm guess she was putting her number in there. Ugh. Great, the guy I liked didn't like me back and was flirting with my ex best friend. What else can go wrong? I turned around to storm upstairs only to trip on my feet and stumbling back down the stairs. Someone caught me before I hit my face on the ground. They placed me back upright on my feet and I looked up to notice the person who caught me. I would have rather hit my face on the floor, It was Jason.

"Thanks" I mumbled in a bit of embarrassment.

"No problem." He said knocking his knuckles playfully into my chin making my face go to the left. Uh okay, what are we 'buddies'? I asked myself.

It was Tuesday and I still had no idea what I wanted to be for my birthday. We were at the costume store picking up Jess's costume and we were going to look around for me. I didn't want something slutty, I wanted something classy. There was a costume of Mary Jane from Spiderman. It was her waitress outfit and I thought it was perfect. She was absolutely stunning and I knew it would be perfect. It was a skirt with fish net leggings, a white button up with a black tie, and a name tag. I decided to trade in the skirt and leggings and wear black jeans instead. It was useless buying the whole costume so, I figured I'd just make one. Since I already have black Jean skinnys and a plain white button up shirt. All I needed was a red wig, a black neck tie, and a name tag. I got an orange-red wig with hair that looked just like hers at the costume store. Decided to borrow one of my dads black neck tie and went a drug store where I found a "do it yourself" name tag. I was all set and Jess was happy with my choice. She on the other hand decided to be a sexy Lady Gaga instead of the dead one I suggested. When we got home we made some invites on the computer and printed them out to hand out tomorrow. To be honest, I was kind of excited, because this was my first birthday party I had in the past two years.

The next day, we're at lunch and we are handing out the invites when Sage and Erin walk up.

"What, no invite for your best friends?" Sage said as if she were pouting. Erin was silent as if trying not to be seen.

"Sparingly, no. Now go on and find someone else to torment." Jess said with total confidence. Sage just tossed her hair in our faces and walk away. All the invites were gone and I was surprised anyone even took them. I mean, I knew I wasn't exactly popular anymore but I was at the bottom either. I took this as a clue, that I wasn't so UN-liked after all. After school we went our separate ways and I went home to find Derek stuffing his face with the pizza he ordered. Grabbed a slice and sat down in the living room with him. After I finish I had totally forgotten, that I never even mentioned the party to my brother. I got up setting my plate on the table.

"So." I began thinking of a way to bring it up casually. "You know, my birthday is in like 4 days right?" My actual birthday is this Sunday and well no one throws parties on a Sunday so we are doing it the day before.

"No, Alba, I didn't" He joked with his mouth full.

"Well, I know it's been a while since I had an actually party and well since mom and dad are against us having house parties. The Carter's are letting me borrow there place." I said all at once. He looked at me with a serious face but I could see a hit of excitement in his eyes. My brother has this weird way of showing his emotions. When I was 8, and he was 10, my brother closed the door on my pinky toe. Causing it the spit open and braking a tiny bone in it. Well, he laughed the whole way there, saying he was sorry, laughing while he said it. I knew he was sincerely sorry because he got this from my dad, who was also laughing but not as historically as Derek was.

"Your serious?

"Yes, Jess asked and they agreed. They said it didn't matter as long as no one broke anything and the house was clean before they got back."

"You mean they're not going to be there?" He said and I knew he was even more excited about have no parental super vision. I shook my head and he said, "Well can I invite a few people?"

"I guess, go ahead."

"Thanks, little sis." He said ruffing my hair as he got up to get another slice of pizza. I also grabbed a slice and head upstairs.
