Internet Buddies

We first met when I was an awkward 13 year old with braces and a flat chest. I was online, searching through boring websites when I came across one website that stood out for me-Wattpad.

It’s an online reading website where you can post stories and poems and what not. Personally, I wasn’t interested in the whole reading thing. I just made an account for the hell of it. One day, I was roaming the site when a little message box popped up.

Rocketskull13: welcome to wattpad!!

It scared the shit out of me. Plus, his username wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine.

So, I replied:

Peacenlove: who the hell are you?

Rocketskull13: my real name is Darren. I just wanted to welcome you here…you know…cuz it was the right thing to do…

I didn't think it was very smart to give your real name to somebody you barely know over the internet... but I did it anyways.

Peacenlove: ohh. Well, hi Darren. I’m Alexis, but you can call me Alex.

Ever since then, talking has been our regular thing. I learned he was 14 at the time, one year older than me. Every day we would talk for at least an hour. I learned lots about him, too; he’s in Florida, while I’m all the way in California. So, just in case he turns out to be a creepy stalker, there’s no way he can reach me. For a whole two years we talked to each other on this website.

Then, when I turned 16, we kicked things up a notch. We started using video cameras and Skype. Yeah, call me nerdy, but I don’t care. We finally got to see what each other looked like. Yes, it was a risk, but I didn’t care. I’ve been talking to this guy for two damn years. If he turned out to be creepy, I already had my mouse button positioned on the end call button. I was good.

So, when he answered, the first words out of my mouth were,

“You’re hot!”

That made him burst out laughing.

I mean, he was. Dark, wavy brown hair. He seemed muscular, or maybe it was just the lighting. His eyes were the color of diamonds, if they existed. He was rocking a plaid jacket and t-shirt. I had my dyed red hair naturally straight at always. I was only in a tank top with my bra straps showing and jeans. Of course, he could only see my waist up. I don’t wear make up, don’t think I ever will. It never helps, anyways, with my purple violet eyes.

After he stopped choking on his own laughter, he smirked and said, “You’re not too bad either.”
