Rarity's POV

***********

"That Thundercloud pony is quite cute," I mused to my friend Applejack, who had just come from showing Big Mac something in the kitchen. "Just not my type, you know?"

"Ain't nobody your type," Applejack snorted. "Of course, 'All my love is to Shining Armor,'" she mocked me. "Ya do realize that's Twilight's big bro, right?"

"Of course I realize! But who cares? I don't think she'd mind." I swooned. "Oh, Shining Armor, I'm coming for you!"

"Yeah, uh-huh, totally gonna happen," Applejack muttered sarcastically. "He can't stand you, Rarity."

"That's HIS way of telling me he loves me!" I insisted. I didn't know why everypony was being so negative! I mean, Shining Armor and I would make the perfect couple!

"HEY TWILIGHT!" Applejack hollered. "RARITY WANTS TO GIT SOME O' YOUR BRO'S D-" I pounced on her before she could finish her inappropriate sentence.

"What do you think you are SAYING?" I gasped. "No, I don't!" But nevertheless, I was blushing madly.

"Uh, I heard my name," Twilight Sparkle said, coming over. I groaned and gestured with my hoof at Applejack.

"Her fault."

"Guess what, Twilight?" Applejack's eyes lit up. Oh, no. "Rarity and I were jus' talkin' about your big bro! Rarity said that she would love to get some of him!"

"No, I did not!" I stomped a hoof. "Twilight Sparkle, please, do ignore this lying, messy little pony." I fluffed my nicely brushed purple mane, sneaking a small peek at Applejack's messed up, dirty one. The nerve! Who goes to a party with a mane like that?

"Rarity, I don't think Shining Armor likes-" Twilight Sparkle started.

"Oh, nonsense!" I scoffed. "Of course he likes me!" Applejack laughed.

"Nice try, pony, but I think Shining Armor is quite swell with Princess Cadence."

"Cadence! She's the problem! I just wish they'd break up." Then I spotted somepony coming our way, or shall I say, someDRAGON.

"Ah! It's Spike! Hide me!" I jumped behind Applejack. Spike was constantly trying to be nice to me while I didn't care for his love at all. Shining Armor . . .

"Hey, girls!" Spike greeted. "I just saw Rarity over here. Do you ponies know where she went?"

"Uh, no?" Twilight Sparkle answered loyally. Applejack smiled evilly.

"Actually, Sugarcube, she's right here." She stepped out of the way, exposing me.

"Rarity!" Spike looked nervous. "Could I . . . uh . . . talk to you . . . in private?" Oh, no.

"Spike! Now's not the time . . ." Twilight Sparkle glanced at me.

"It's ok, I'll go," I jumped in graciously, like a lady. If he asked me out, I'd just say no. Easy. I did this all the time.

Spike and I stepped into Twilight's bedroom upstairs. I waited patiently while Spike cleared his throat. I couldn't help notice how handsome his eyes were . . .

"Uh, Rarity," Spike stammered.

"Yes, Spike?"

"I wanted to ask you an important question." Of course you did.

"All right." Wait for it . . .

"Rarity, do you like me?" Spike inhaled sharply after he said that.

"Well . . ."

"Because I like you. I mean, like, a lot. And I was wondering if . . . you'd go out with me?" An extremely hopeful, cute expression appeared on his face.

'Say "no", Rarity,' I thought to myself. But for some reason, my lips wouldn't move. The way he stared into my eyes meaningfully was enchanting. Was it a dragon thing, or just . . . him?

"No," I tried to say, but instead it came out as a, "Uh, um, er, well, I guess, washyu, oosi, um . . ."

"You can say no," Spike said quickly, looking disappointed. I opened my mouth.

"I mean, Spike! Uh . . ." I exhaled. Pull it together, Rarity. "I'm really sorry, but I'll have to say no to this one. I really am sorry." See? That wasn't so hard. But then why did I feel a small pain in my chest and why did it feel like I just broke Spike's heart? Why did I care?

"Oh, it's ok," Spike sighed. He looked crushed and I felt horrible.

"Spike, I'm so sorry . . ."

"Don't be."

"But-"

"Rarity . . .!" Just then, Spike leaned in sharply and kissed me passionately. And boy, was he a good kisser! Oh my Celestia!

Not knowing what to do, I kissed him back for a few minutes. Then I remembered: Shining Armor! I tried to pull away, but my own heart wouldn't let me. Then this thought randomly passed through my head:

'How do ponies and dragons make love, anyway?'

This disturbing thought made me pull away abruptly. "Spike . . . I can't."

"Oh, uh, I mean . . ." Spike stuttered and turned to look somewhere else. He looked crushed, like before. "Cool. Yeah, um, I'll just be . . . getting back to the party now, I guess."

"I guess," I echoed. Spike smiled sadly at me one last time before climbing down, back into the party.

'Shining Armor, Shining Armor,' I thought. 'Not Spike, Shining Armor!'

Then I passed out.
