Chapter Four - Angel

"What happened to your hands?" Duke asked, his arms over his chest when I arrived home

He was calm, thankfully.

"I tripped at ice skating" I lightly joked as I held my bandaged hands up

To my surprise, his lips lightly turned up, his arms wrapping around my waist, pulling me close

"Always hurting yourself aren't you?" He breathed as he walked me into the living room.

I shrugged and leaned into him, soaking in his scent

"No matter what I do, I just can't seem to help it" I mumbled against his thin shirt

He rest a hand on the back of my head, the other on the small of my back.
I lifted my face and looked up at him, his eyes were searching my face

"You're in an unusually good mood" I smirked

He shrugged and leaned down, his hand reaching out to my face.
His thumb began rubbing circles around my cheek
"I trust you, at the end of the day, you come home to me" He explained

"That's right" I smiled as he leaned down to lightly press his lips against mine

"Can I ask you something?" I began

"What is it?" He mumbled as he fiddled with a piece of stray hair near my forehead

"Can you be honest?"

"Sure" He answered, now looking at me directly, curious

"What do you know about Callum that I don't?" I edged

He sighed and dropped his hand from my face "I don't want to talk about him" He weakly smiled, leaning down to kiss me again, this time, gentle, slow, passionate

I didn't argue, I didn't press the issue.
I supposed that tomorrow night, all would be revealed when Callum spoke to me after work.

"Where is everyone?" I asked, looking around the house

"Heya" Riley's voiced entered on time as he walked downstairs, stopping at the bottom.

"Riley! Hey!" I grinned

"You're up super late tonight. Ditching school tomorrow are we?" He asked, winking at me

"No" I rolled my eyes

"Sure sure" He mumbled as he walked towards us, stopping a few feet away

"Duke here keeping you up all night is he?" Riley winked again, wriggling his eyebrows

I felt awkward and shuffled my feet, looking down.

"Get out of it Riley" Duke joked as his grip around me tightened

"Anyway pretty" Riley began with his gaze on mine "I was wondering if you could call in sick tomorrow? Jaymi and I are going to spend the day at the lake, we haven't spent much time together, and wondered if you wanted to come"

"She has to go to school" Duke cut in for me

"The lake?" I asked, ignoring Duke

"The one we went to before the war with Ryde and Dodge" He reminded me as he rocked on his toes

"Sure" I smiled "I love that place"
It probably wasn't a good idea, but I wanted to spend time with them.

"Rosie, no" Duke cut in again looking down at me sternly

"Duke, yes" I mimicked "But you'll have to drop me off at work at four" I added towards Riley

Duke sighed while Riley walked back upstairs "It's a done deal Rosalie Jean" He called, satisfied
