I was about three hours late for school, but I had made it. I didn't want to miss out on anymore classes, I couldn't afford to.

The day went by fast, despite it being tiring and repetitive. On days as such, I wanted to throw my hands up and quit, surrendering to Dukes requests, but had to do what I had to do. In the end, it would be worth it.

During my free period, I studied, exactly like I should have. Luckily it was helping, I needed all the time I could get.

When school did finish, I drove towards work, just to drop in and say hello to Callum and Malory before heading back home.

"Hey you, it's your day off why are you even here?" Callum asked as soon as he spotted me behind the kitchen counter

"Thought I'd drop in and say hi" I shrugged as I walked towards the counter where Malory was.

"Hey" She greeted as she smiled at me, a little happier than usual this time

"How was your day?" I asked her, leaning my elbows on the counter as she scribbled down reservations in the book for Thursday night

"Not bad" She shrugged "Although I'm getting tired of listening to Callum whinge that you aren't working today, no offence" She scoffed

I creased my eyebrows and looked her "What was he saying about me?" I asked curiously

She shrugged again "Same as always, he's worried about you, worried about your boyfriend" She explained leaning down

"Why?" I asked, rolling my eyes

"I think he has a mild crush on you, he wants you to dump Duke so he can have you" She smiled with a wink

"Are you serious?" My mouth gapped

"I am one hundred percent serious, but if you'd prefer me to lie to you, I can" She smiled, wagging her eyebrows up and down

I groaned, turning towards the kitchen, walking towards Callum.

I had tried to ignore the fact, but it was now becoming obvious to others, it made me feel uneasy. Not because I had a boyfriend, but because whenever Callum was around, I felt an unexplainable connection to him, a draw to his normalcy. I dreaded the idea of his feelings being reciprocal from me.

"Hey Callum" I began, keeping my voice steady. He was behind his bench, peeling potatoes when his eyes lifted to me.

"I should tell you to go home on your day off, but to be honest, I like your company" He started, already pulling the charm

I rolled my eyes, and crossed my arms "Callum.." I began

"I know, I'm being too forthcoming, I shouldn't, I'm sorry" He sighed, his eyes kept down on his job in hand

I paused, unsure as to the authenticity of his admittance.

"It's a quiet night" I quickly changed the subject

"Yeah, hopefully I can leave early" He nodded, a small smile forming on his lips as he bravely looked up at me.
I had to control my thoughts, the small smiles that he sent my way were sending my heart on a flutter.
Not as intense as Dukes eye contact would, but still enough to make me self conscious.

"Well, I'm working tomorrow, so I'll see you then" I finished, cutting into the settling silence, turning to leave

"Okay, drive safe" He waved me off.

I walked outside into the cold winter breeze towards my car. Jumping into the drivers seat, I made sure to check my phone, pulling it from my handbag. There were no missed calls or texts.
