Chapter Fifteen

“So Derek is the cause of everything?” Tyler questioned. I nodded licking my cookies and cream ice cream. Tyler and I had gone to a cute little ice cream shop which was tucked away on one of the side streets. The shop had lots of booths around the outer walls and in the middle there were tables and chairs. The colour theme was red and white with the booths tables being white and the seats being red whereas in the middle, the tables were red and the chairs white. The ground was also tiled with alternating red and white. Along the walls there hung many pictures of ice cream, ice cream makers and anything related to ice cream.

I had just finished telling Tyler about my day and I could see he was getting angry.

“I can’t believe him! Making you cry! He’s not a real man. I wish I could go punch him” I chuckled, starting to feel better,

“Why do guys always resort to violence?”

“It’s the easiest way to get our feelings out. Girls cry, guys punch”

“I guess that’s true. Anyway, why so early? I thought we were meeting at seven”

“I couldn’t wait to see you. Why? Did you not want to see me?”

“Of course I wanted to see you! I was just wondering that’s all. Thanks Tyler, I feel much better after talking to you”

“Anytime. Just call me if you ever need someone to talk to”

“It is really ok though? If we meet up I mean. Will something bad happen?” Tyler ate the last of his cone and shrugged,

“I don’t really know. If something bad does happen, well not much we can do about it, but I want to see you. Trent told me to stay away, that it is too complicated, but I couldn’t. I can’t stay away from you, Rose” I felt my heart beat faster, what was he saying?

“Rose, I-” Tyler hesitated.

“What?” I questioned, wondering if he was about to say what I thought he was.

“Ah, actually, nevermind.  Let’s go” Tyler stood up, grabbing my hand.

“Where are we going?” I asked, popping the last of my cone into my mouth, trying to hide the disappointment I felt.

“Somewhere fun” With that he dragged me out of the shop and down the street. “Tonight I am going to make you forget all about that loser Derek” I smiled and matched Tyler’s pace so instead of him dragging me, we were just walking down the street holding hands. I felt a blush rise to my cheeks but was soon distracted as Tyler stopped in front of a ball bungy and threw his arms wide open,

“Ta da!”

“Really?”

“Oh it’s so much fun! Come on!” So a few minutes later I was strapped in tight and the ball cage wires were slowly being stretched out. Soon the wires were stretched fully and then the ball cage was flung into the air. My stomach dropped into my feet as I soared through the air, screaming in delight. Any lingering thoughts of Derek just flew out of my head. All too soon the ride was over but I couldn’t help but grin like an idiot.

“That was so much fun! What’s next?”

“How about playing some pool?”

“Sounds good although I really suck at it” I grinned as we crossed the street and entered the pool hall. The pool hall had about twenty five tables, placed close together but not close enough so the players were always hitting each other. Every table had two lights hanging above it, lighting it up although unused tables were kept in darkness. In the middle of the room in between the two rows of tables there were leather couches and racks for the pool cues. I turned my attention back to the counter just as Tyler paid for an hour and we received our balls. I quickly placed the balls into the triangle while Tyler grabbed the pool cues,

“Ok I’ll break!” I declared, starting our game.

After pool Tyler took me to Burgerfuel. Burgerfuel was a burger bar which was located on the main street of Auckland and one of my favourite burger bars. I didn’t really enjoy fancy restaurants so I loved coming here. Tyler stated that he knew this already and that is why he brought me here. I couldn’t help but feel my cheeks light up and my heart beat faster as I thought about how much thought Tyler had put into this.

Just as we received our burgers I heard a voice which made me freeze.

“Burgerfuel? You aren’t taking me to a restaurant?” The voice belonged to Fiona and right next to her was Derek.
