Chapter 12

Char: Oh my God I am freaking full.

Nicole: I know right, jeez I've missed food in Paris. It's just perfect.

Eric: You are welcome.

Nicole: Char did you thank Eric?

Char: Nope. Did you?

Nicole: Not at all.

Eric: Whatever. Amanda you really ought to teach them some manners.

Amanda: Don't drag me into this Eric.

Claire: Ha! You are all alone cos you know what Chris is gonna say, right?

All the girls and Chris: Every man for himself.

Eric: Asswipes! I'm going first anyways.

Char: Yeah hurry though!

Nicole: What's gotten you so excited all of a sudden?

Chris: I can bet I know what.

Char: You remember?

Chris: Of course I remember Char.

Nicole: And now you've lost me.

WAY BACK WHEN:

Chris had heard the footsteps too and our first thought was to hide but we heard whoever it was crying and stayed still.

It was public domain after all... it didn't concern us so far as the person wasn't dangerous.

The person wasn't. Char wasn't I mean.

"Char are you alright?!" Chris asked urgently.

"Who's there?" it was kinda dark and it was obvious that her sight was blurred from the tears.

"It's us Char - Chris and Eric." I replied worried.

Why was she crying? Had I done this to her? Was she ok?

"Oh. I'm sorry I'd just go back home."

"You could stay. It's quiet here and a public domain. We won't bother you."

"Are you sure?" she asked hesitant.

"Yep." I answered lightly.

She sat down on an adjacent bench and was quiet.

For once, Chris had nothing to say to lighten the mood.

We all stayed quiet for minutes which seemed like ages then Chris broke the silence,

"Umm... I think I'd go home now. School tomorrow and all."

"Chris I think I'd stay so I can walk Char home, she shouldn't be walking alone in the dark."

"No you can go home. I'd be ok. I'd soon leave anyways." she protested.

"You should stay. I'd stay too but you know how I am if I don't sleep early."

He walked over to Char's bench and whispered something that sounded like "Char don't cry or I won't be able to sleep tonight. Please Char. Everything will be alright."

She replied, "everything Chris?"

"Everything baby." he replied softly.

"Ok. Be safe. For me."

He looked at her and kissed her softly before coming back to me.

We did our handshake thing and with one last glance at Char he walked away.
