Never in my 24 years of life did I think I would be sitting in front of the one man who ruined what felt like everything to 17-year-old me. But here he was sitting tall and larger than life in an expensive gray suit. Eyes the color of honey stained with green flecks, and wavy brown hair that once used to touch his jaw cut short to fit his profile.

I flexed my fingers from under the table, his sheer silence irking every single nerve in my body. He observed me with cool eyes as if this was his first time seeing me.

Well, it was... in four years.

I sat up straight, fixing my skirt in my seated position. The back of my thighs rubbed on the sleek leather of the seat. I bit down on my bottom lip, and a cold sweat trickled down my spine. The room became awfully suffocating. Between his crucifying gaze and the man's speech, I couldn't decide what to focus on.

"Miss. Silvia, is there anything you'd like to add," my partner called my name. Snapping me out of my whirlwind of thoughts. I stood up, smoothing my skirt over my thighs with the palms of my hands.

Hazel eyes followed my every movement. I fought back a chill that threatened to run down my back as I opened my mouth. "Yes, our new energy-efficient HVAC system would be beneficial towards WilliamsCo and the environment as it reduces energy consumption by 25% while keeping comfort levels at an all-time high." I looked across the room as I pitched our product. "I strongly urge you to take great consideration of how our partnership would not only benefit both companies but also help save our environment."

I spent years avoiding this man, ignoring the news of his ever-growing business in the city of Las Vegas. Yet here I was, standing in his building and pitching him my company's product and partnership. After pushing myself through school and graduating with my B.A. in engineering I accepted a job at EcoClove one of the largest environmental engineering firms in Nevada.

I knew this was his company but my brain didn't want to comprehend beforehand the fact he would be in the same room as me. Honey eyes resided on me, shamelessly, observing every detail of my face and body. I flexed my fingers again, annoyed by his blatant stare.

"Thank you, Miss. Silvia and Mr. Cole, we've heard enough. We'll give you a response via email within a week. Everyone is dismissed," he spoke, my last name odd to hear from his mouth. Mr.Cole cleared his throat and packed up his things, leaving me in the dust. Everyone started packing their things, placing papers back in their folders, and pushing their seats in.

I scurried to my seat and picked up my files, stuffing them in my purse. My fingers were trembling so much that my bag flung to the floor, papers and pens blanketed the white tile. I lowly cursed while I crouched down to pick up my belongings. When I stood back up the room was almost empty. The only one remaining was the boss himself, clad in Armani, a gold watch secured around his wrist.

Our eyes met, electricity crackled in the air, and a beat passed before he took a step forward, his lips parting, "Jade I-"

"Save it," I pulled the zipper of my purse, the sound flinging through the air. "We're in a professional setting so we should act accordingly Mr. Williams," the name came out bitterly.
