Jonathan's POV

I sat down in my office chair and dropped the file on the desk. For the whole drive back, I just stared at it. What was going to be in it? Did I even want to know?

At least I didn't have to worry about Liv popping in and questioning me. It was Mia's day off and like the bad influence she was, she convinced Liv to take a day too. They were probably at home having a pillow fight while they watched Titanic.

After staring at it for a couple more minutes, I realized it's best to just get it over with. Whatever this envelope contained couldn't be that bad. I ripped the top open, shoved my hand in, and pulled out a thick wad of papers and...pictures?

On the top, there was a picture of Liv going into the grocery store. Then there was her coming out with a cart full of bags. There were more pictures of her at the grocery store after that.

The next set was of her running around the neighborhood. Then her at the mall with Mia. Then her leaving work. The next set was of us entering  my father's house the morning of that disastrous brunch, which was quite odd.

I pushed those aside as I examined the next set. The picture showed the front of my house, except there was somebody standing at the door. I turned to the next one and I realized that it was a male, but his back was to the camera. Then, in the next one, his face was showing. The man standing at my front door was Dontae. My fist tightened around the next picture which showed him entering the house.

Why the bloody hell was Liv's ex-boyfriend going into my house? She said they were together 7 years ago, so why the hell was he showing up on my doorstep?

The next picture showed him leaving my house with a satisfied smirk on his face. As I crumpled up the picture in my fist, I knew I would give up so many things just to be able to knock that cocky smirk clean off his face.

On top of the pile sat a paper with the words 'SFL Diagnostics' written at the top. I'd heard of that company once or twice. It was one of those places where they tested DNA to tell like who the father of a baby is, if you've done drugs and stuff like that.

Why would somebody want to show me this?

There were the words 'hair test result' followed by a list of several drugs and as my eyes were to travel up to see whose test this was, my office door was pushed open and Brittany came storming in with her own orange envelope in hand.

"I see you got one of these as well," She said, walking quickly to my desk. "Have you looked at the results yet?"

"How'd you get that?" I queried, pointing at it.

"After I got off the phone with you, there was a knock at the door. When I opened it, this envelope was sitting on my doormat."

I knitted my eyebrows questioningly as I looked down at the name printed at the top.

Liv Williams

"What the hell?" I mumbled.

Beside every drug, there was the word positive or negative printed there.

Amphetamines - Negative

Cocaine Metabolite - Negative

Opiates - Negative

Ecstasy - Negative

Oxycodone - Negative

Marijana - Positive

"Do you see this?" Brittany threw her envelope down on the desk. "You brought a pothead and alcoholic to meet your father!"

"A-Alcoholic?" I repeated, my voice breaking.

Brittany reached over and picked up the drug test results. Under it was Liv's medical record and a background check. I looked down at it and saw four words I never thought would be written beside my gems name.

Rehabilitation Center - Alcohol Abuse

What was this? Was this true? Why didn't she tell me?

I felt anger soar through my veins. I had been completely honest with her and she lied to me! She did drugs and went to rehab but obviously thought it wasn't important enough to tell me!

"Did you even do a background check on this girl before you brought her into your house, Jonathan?" Brittany yelled.

"Of course I did!" I barked, still staring at it. "Mine didn't show this!"

"Wanna know why? Huh?" She began, putting her hands on her hips. "She got this covered up by some high judge named Derrick Gates! She has people cleaning up her mess for her!"

Gates? Dontae's last name was Gates!

"You really fucked up this time Jonathan! You let your head get clouded over and this whole time she's probably just been screwing you over!" She screamed.

"Get out!" I barked loudly.

"Fine! But I warned you and you didn't listen." She left after that with her head held high.

I stared at everything laid out on my desk and the anger just kept boiling in my veins. I grabbed the first thing my hand touched and threw it against the wall beside my door. I heard the shatter of glass, but I didn't care.

I stood up and gathered all the papers and pictures and shoved them back in the envelope sloppily. I made my way out the room, not even bother to glance down at the shattered frame that once held a smiling picture of Liv in it.

The whole time I drove home, the memories of the past year flashed through my head. The night we met, when I first brought her home with me, that shopping trip we went on. Our first kiss. All the times she laughed or smiled around me. The time at the beach. When we exchanged I love you's.

After all of this, I wondered if she ever really cared for me. I tear slipped out my eye. I loved her so much. Well, the person I thought she was. At that moment, I knew one thing and one thing only.

She lied to me.
