this is something that i just see done a lot so i wanted to mention it.
please remember what season/episode you're in when you're writing.
what i mean by this is: characters grow/develop. they change. the character that you're writing needs to be written in the way that they were written in the season that you're writing.
i notice this the most with characters like caroline or damon who were very different from the beginning of the show to the end.
i'll often see fanfics set in season 1 where caroline is written like it's in season 3.
caroline was very judgmental, insecure, jealous, and competitive in season 1. less so in later seasons. but fanfics will write her like she was written in later seasons.
another example is i'll see fanfics set in season 1/2 where elena and damon are like best friends or are already in a relationship.
they aren't. and elena hated damon in season 1 and most of season 2. of course they had a few moments, but they were not together and they weren't best friends.
this isn't incredibly important i just thought i'd make a note of it because i see people do this so often.
