Over the next few weeks, Megan threw herself into her work and her relationship with Michael. They spent their days planning their future together, discussing everything from their wedding to their dream home.

Megan was happier than she had ever been, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She felt like she was living in a bubble, shielded from the world by her love for Michael.

One day, while she was at work, she received an email from Alex. Her heart skipped a beat as she read the subject line: "I need to talk to you."

Megan hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. She knew that she shouldn't be corresponding with Alex, but she couldn't help but feel curious.

In the end, her curiosity got the better of her, and she opened the email.

"Megan," Alex wrote. "I know that you're with Michael now, and I respect that. But there's something I need to tell you. Something that I think you should know."

Megan felt a sense of apprehension as she read Alex's words. She knew that this couldn't be good.

She hesitated for a moment, then typed out a reply.

"What is it, Alex?" she wrote. "What do you need to tell me?"

A few minutes later, Alex's response came through.

"I don't think Michael is who he says he is," he wrote. "I've been doing some digging, and I think he's been hiding something from you."

Megan felt a cold sweat break out on her forehead as she read Alex's words. She couldn't believe what she was reading.

"What are you talking about?" she wrote back, her fingers shaking as she typed. "What could he be hiding from me?"

Alex's response was quick.

"I don't know for sure," he wrote. "But I think you should start looking into his past. Something doesn't add up."

Megan felt like the ground had dropped out from under her. She had never doubted Michael before, but now she couldn't help but feel like there was something that he wasn't telling her.

She spent the rest of the day lost in thought, unable to concentrate on her work. She knew that she needed to talk to Michael, but she didn't know how to broach the subject.

That evening, Megan took a deep breath and decided to confront him. She didn't want to open the flood gates of the fact that they had been emailing for week so she tread carefully with her words.

"Michael," she said, her voice shaky. "I got an email today from Alex."

Michael's expression darkened at the mention of Alex's name. It made Megan wonder if Alex leaving the company was not as simple as that. Michael had still never mentioned his departure and didn't even flinch at the mention of his name.

"What did he say?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

"He said that you're hiding something from me," Megan said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Michael's eyes narrowed as he looked at her.

"What could I possibly be hiding from you?" he asked, his voice rising in anger.

Michael had always gotten worked up easily, that was no secret. He was raised wealthy and was never told no, the opposite of her own upbringing. She saw past that, they worked well together. Almost like opposites that brought out the best in one another, but one thing they were always on the same page with was honesty.

"I don't know," Megan said, her voice trembling. "But I need to know the truth. Are you keeping something from me?"

Michael hesitated for a moment, then sighed.

"There's something that you should know."
