"She needs some rest, but she'll be alright," the doctor states, "because the bullet was removed quickly, it hasn't caused any long term damage."

"When can we see her?" John asks.

"In a little while, she's still asleep, but when she wakes up we'll make you aware," he responds.

"You saved her," Lewis says to Elis, nudging his elder cousin.

"She saved herself, she recognised the area where she'd been hit, and demanded it be removed because she knew the damage it could result in," Elis responds.

"So humble for no reason," Lewis mumbles, "I would be holding it over her head for the rest of my existence."

"That's because you're a prick," Elis replies.

Alex wakes up, blinking a couple of times so she could adjust to the light, she tries to sit up, and feels an indescribable amount of pain just above her abdomen.

She remembers the events from the auction. The gun. The falling. The removal of the bullet.

The removal of the bullet. That means they'd all seen that horrible scar across her torso, the branding on her hip. Luckily her shirt had only been rolled up so they could see the wound, the marks Amari had left across her chest had thankfully still been hidden.

"Brilliant, you're awake," a doctor states.

"Where are my clothes?" Alex asks.

"Your family have a spare set," he responds, "how are you feeling?"

"Like shit," Alex says, "when can I get out of here?"

"We've got to keep you for some tests, so it might take up to a week," he tells her.

"For fucks sakes, just give me a bottle of rum and I'll be fine," Alex says.

"As a trained healthcare officer, I have to say, that is a worrying mindset to have," he responds.

"Can I see Amari?" Alex asks.

"I will go tell them you're awake," he states.

"Only let Amari in, not all of them, not yet," Alex replies.

-

"So Alex and Amari are good friends?" Michael asks Elis, who looks down at him in confusion, "are you really that naive? Or oblivious?"

"What?" Michael responds.

"They're dating, have been for over a year, they're more than good friends," Elis states.

"I didn't realise," Michael says, blushing, "sorry I've just never known any."

"Any what? Lesbians?" Elis replies.

"Yeah, I come from a small religious village," Michael states, "they gave exorcisms to anyone they believed to be homosexuals, saying they were possessed by demons."

"It's not anything different to a heterosexual relationship," Elis responds, "they're a couple, the only thing different is that they're both female, it's that simple. They love each other, that's all that matters."
